Does it have to be ceiling mounted or can I fix it to a wall?

Smoke detectors should be ideally mounted on the ceiling. Smoke goes along the floor in movies but in real life it will rise and mushroom across the ceiling. If the detector is mounted on a wall (providing it can be side mounted) the detector should be close to the ceiling for a fast response. Can it be you in a motorhome

Im sure it can as is battery operated, but as motorhome lot smaller than a house i think it would be more sensitive to steam and smoke so need to think where best to place it.
