An Emotional Rollercoaster....
When you think of Ladybugs, you immediately think: “mesmerizing insect”, “natural pest-control”, “disturbing nursey rhyme”. Little did know that, when I ordered these Ladybugs, the bittersweet lesson in store for me. I was whisked away on a cathartic journey, rivaled only by the time my friends and I watched “Sophie’s Choice” and made it a drinking game. The Ladybugs arrived early, much to my surprise. I was very excited to release them into their new home and rushed them to garden immediately. When I opened the box, there they were, flitting inside a mesh, plastic container, eager to get to their new surroundings. There was also a worm-looking thing in the box. Maybe a caterpillar? Did he hop in the box by mistake? Did he escape and hitch a ride unbeknownst to the owner? Who knows? I dumped him in the garden. Survive or die, I thought. I was more concerned with the Ladybugs. I pulled the Ladybug container out, ready to pop the lid and start counting, but when I did, I became swarmed with the little gals trying to scurry out of their confines. Just how long had they endured such imprisonment that they would be so eager to escape? I abandoned my counting efforts and stepped back. Suddenly they were taking flight. Some jumped the fence immediately, letting the breeze blow them where they may. Others ran for the protection of the garden, never to be seen again. I thought, “I’m here to help you! Please, enjoy my humble home. No need to run.” But it was too late. My dreams of living together in harmony soon became a fleeting memory. These beautiful creatures were no longer going to be subjected to any man’s rules. They had their freedom. “Just because you saved us, doesn’t mean you own us!”, I could hear their words and laughter ringing in my head. And they were right. I had simply become a cog in the machine, securing their right to freedom. Like watching your children leave home, get married, and start families of their own. I had done my part. And now they can do theirs; go into the world, spread joy and happiness, and to live their best lives. To be the faces of resilience and adversity. I am I comfortable with my role of helping that dream come true. I envision Lulu’s voice singing “To Sir, With Love” every time I glance at my garden. I don’t need the sky or the moon; just knowing I’ve taken them from crayons to perfume is enough for me. These little guys had me reach all seven stages of grief in a matter of five minutes.I will definitely order them again… when I can better prepare myself emotionally.

They were all alive and well!
My ladybugs arrived well and happy, at least I thought they were happy. I put them in the fridge to wait for dusk. Dusk arrived and I sprayed my plants with water, set out a little red bowl with a paper towel in it, wet it all down, and opened the bowl. The sleepy ladybugs started coming out and looking around. I carefully placed them on various plants that I knew had aphids, and waited. The next morning I saw the ladybugs happily (I thought) wondering all over the plants. My garden is on my apartment patio, so I can watch them all day. All day long they walked around my garden, seeming to take naps in the heat of the day. The next morning, I saw fewer ladybugs. I watched them throughout the day and never saw as many as I had the day before. I sprayed the plants to make sure there were water droplets in case some of them did not see the little bowl. Each day, until today, four days later, I saw fewer and fewer little ladybugs. Today, not a single one. I don't know why they seemed to have left, I still see aphids, I have changed their water and spritzed my plants (vegetables and flowers), trying to make sure they were happy. I checked the ladybug house but there do not seem to be any ladybugs. They did eat a lot of aphids, but not all. I would wholeheartedly recommend these ladybugs, they were healthy, active, not one single dead one in the bowl. I guess they didn't like my garden, though.

Very happy
The media could not be loaded. I bought these for a Girl Scout badge project. The price was perfect. I had other little jars to separate them into so I could hand them out to all of the girls. So, as long as they’re refrigerated they don’t really move much. I had them in there for like a week. I thought I killed them all! Like, great—here kids, a bunch of dead bugs! But as soon as I had them outside for a minute or so they ALL came to life. Getting them into the other jars was tricky! I just used a spoon and scooped them in and closed the lid. We’ve had to do online meetings recently so all the girls released the ladybugs onto their plants/flowers/gardens at home via zoom. They all really loved doing it!I felt this was a good value and I didn’t have any casualties. My ONLY complaint is that the container arrived inside a box with zero padding or anything to prevent it from slamming all around inside the box during transit. But that’s an Amazon thing, not this company.

Live, active native ladybugs
I received the package sooner than expected. All bugs were alive and well. I followed the directions and misted my plants. The ladybugs were there for almost a week afterward. They took care of a very large aphid population on my tomato and pepper plants. There are only a handful left. I am hoping the majority laid some eggs before they flew away. While I am happy with the product, I will note that there were not 300 bugs in the container. I added a few bugs to each plant base. While I will admit it was hard counting moving objects, we counted about 130 bugs.

They came to work!
I haven’t had ladybugs shipped before because I’ve been worried they would die in transit, but due to the pandemic I had to take a chance. These bugs came in great condition! Everyone alive and well and ready to devour aphids. We had a tropical storm hit the evening they arrived so I refrigerated them for two nights. They handled that just fine. It was still misty and dark late in the afternoon when I finally released them, and that worked out well. They were very thirsty, so happy to be on wet (though slightly protected) plants. They stayed for a few days until my aphids were gone. Most have moved on now, but there are a couple of stragglers still out there. I’m hoping they’ve left some eggs, so I can get some larva in a few days. They did their job well!!!
