Great product and love the storage box
People need to realize that if you abuse somethign even if it is the highest quality and you are using it wrong...it will break. If you are careful then this kit should last you forever. Aluminum is not steel, but there is a reason the rods and other parts are made of aluminum so you do not scratch or scrape of chunks of the barrel or any other part of you gun...aluminum is soft and will not do damage to the gun if you are being careful....the kit comes with everything you need and i suggest getting some Gunzilla cleaning oil and lubricant bc it is environmentally friendly and less toxic odor smell....The outers kit is great just use your brain when you clean a gun and dont fly thru it and you wont break parts of this kit...after all i would rather have an aluminum bar bend or snap instead of taking out a chunk of my gun ( not only for looks but for functioning purposes since that can be very dangerous depending on where you take a chunk out of the metal on your gun at...it involves physics and I am not a physics teacher so just go watch Hickock45 on youtube if you care to learn about that.

A Box is a box is a box.
OK, Let us first look at what exactly we are getting here. A small, light weight box just to hold cleaning supplies and to put your long gun on to clean or admire the beauty of it. The box itself is thin. However, if it was 3/4 in oak all the reviews would say - this thing is to heavy and costs to much. So it is easy to tote around when you have it packed with your supplies, very nice. The Drawer is a friction fit and hard to pull out. The reason it is hard to pull out is the cheep plastic piece that holds all the brushes and what not. I tossed that and dumped what came with along with my other rods, brushes snake boar and it closed and opened just fine. The little knob on the front is small so I think I might switch that out with a old cabinet handle I have laying around.Thew gun holder deal does not fight tight but am I really going to use it that much when I clean it I take it all apart on my counter. I may use a shim or two to tighten it up. Those are going on a shelf anyway to make room on the inside for more stuff.I put in the Cleaner, oil, punch, needle nose, patches and Ballistol etc... It holds quite a bit of stuff. I think it is a good little box I wanted something to hold about everything I need and I can leave it out and it and not look at 2 or three plastic cases. I give this 4 Stars for Convenience - Looks - Price. If you want a hand carved, with gold inlay, and made of exotic wood then that is what you should go get, for the price this was right on the money.

Nice starter kit.
Bought this for my grandson's first gun cleaning kit. I added some items to it that were specific to the calibers / gauges of his guns. Overall a nice starter kit. The rod is solid brass and good quality for a kit of this nature. One item I didn't like was that the drawer does not have any way to keep it from coming open by itself when carrying. It's a minor thing and an easy fix to add a little lever to swing out of the way when you want to open the drawer. Also, the standards to hold the long guns are stored in the lid. Nice idea, but they take up more room inside the case when the lid is closed than I would have thought. This made it tough to store the other items since it reduced the available volume inside the case. Your storage needs may vary.

Well Received Gift To Avid Sportsman
Superior results can be obtained if certain precautions are considered.1. Brass and bronze are 'soft' metal alloys. Use the rods and brushes with finesse, not brute strength.2. Unless you are under fire, do not rush weapon maintenance. Devote the time and attention necessary for the task or have your weapons professionally cleaned (abt. $25).3. Do not blame the tools if results are less than satisfactory; they are inanimate objects under your control. If you are old enough to use a weapon, you are old enough to understand (and work with) this concept. That said, I want to pass along a hearty 'Thank You!' to Outers for providing a fully stocked gun cleaning kit, including highly serviceable rods and brushes, in a nicely crafted tool box. To spice the deal, The Sportsman's Guide was the only vendor carrying the unit just days before Christmas with guaranteed timely delivery. My son-in-law and grandsons have already used the kit several times. I expect this kit to serve well for many years.

Outers 25 / wood box 10 stars!
I was looking primarily for a nice wood box big enough for all my cleaning supplies and special firearm tools, this was THE answer! I got a few tiny wood boxes from a craft store and stained them to match the Outers box for all the loose bits and pieces. I did 2 mods to the box that I feel we're mandatory. I clear coated the inside of the drawer ( discarded the molded plastic tray that comes with) and the box so oil and carbon don't stain them. The other mod was a turnbuckle just above the drawer on the outside of the chest that when turned down, locks the drawer from sliding out. Good quality, decent finish (not furniture grade but, it is a tool box). As far as the cleaning rods, mops, brushes, and swab tips go...they are all fine and a lot of them. Nice kit, I would buy it again.
