The best desk/mouse mat available.
I've purchased 2 of these mats after growing tired of cloth mats. The first lasted 2 years before I replaced it unnecessarily, and the current one is going on 2 year and 2 months. I'm about to order another replacement for reasons listed below.Unlike cloth mats, these have incredible oil and fluid resistance. I've spilled water, beer, and cocktails on these and they barely soak in and can be easily cleaned with damp paper towels. They dry quickly and don't retain moisture for long. Additionally, they don't catch or cling to oil from your hands/wrists, and while it may appear that they "scratch" easily, all it takes is a damp paper towel to get them looking new.My only gripe is with the stitching along the border of the surface and the silicone base, which does begin to fray over time depending where you place the most pressure on - in my case, the bottom of the mat as that's where my wrists wrest on. I don't know why other reviewers show the surface peeling away from the silicone base so dramatically over a day of use when none of mine have peeled over the course of 2 years, but the stitching does begin to show fray within a few months - which, being nylon stitching, just requires a second or two of burning it off with a lighter. Not once has the surface bubbled or separate off the mat.As for feel, I have no complaints with my G502, but I'm also a rare breed who doesn't believe your mouse or mousepad has any effect on your ability to play a video game. My mouse glides just fine over the surface and doesn't catch or feel abrasive. It's actually a massive improvement over cloth pads - the only thing that can top this is aluminum and good luck finding anything aluminum in this size.I have a great disdain for cloth mats as they absorb literally everything, are too soft, and while cheap, I'd rather have something that lasts years rather than replace every 6 months, and in the off-chance you spill food or drink on it, won't absorb and fester bacteria.Bottom line, this is the one product Mad Catz has manufactured and QA/QC'd correctly, because my only memory of them prior was being handed one of their trash controllers by a friend in middle school to play Halo.Oh, and it looks nice as long as you keep it clean. With a damp paper towel. Pretty simple.

One of the best most durable mousepads out there
I have been using this mousepad for 1+ years now and it is by far one of the best surfaces I have used. What the Glide 38 does that most mousepads do not, is offer a nice balance between form and function. The hybrid cloth/rubber surface may not be as smooth as (let's say) the Glorious Ice Elements, but the textured surface allows for smooth movements while offering enough traction to maintain sufficient control when needed. As for maintenance, this mousepad is easier to clean than anything I have used cloth or otherwise. Whatever rubberized material they are using in this makes it damn near impervious to moisture and natural oils. Now, there are some reviewers which have shown problems with the surface splitting from the silicone base and I have to wonder if it is because of how some people are cleaning it. After reading some of the reviews, it seems as if some people are cleaning this by throwing it in the washing machine >>> DO NOT DO THIS!Nowhere on the Mad Catz website, or in the packaging does it say that this thing is machine washable. But many assume because of its material that it could survive the wash and end up damaging the mousepad causing the aforementioned problems. This is not Mad Catz fault, but simply the (unintended) irresponsibility of the user. While running through a washing machine is easy, you have to account for the centrifugal force of the washing machine along with the agitation. Top-loading washing machines are known to wear out clothes faster because of the agitator itself. The typical cleaning motions of the washing machine will quickly degrade the mousepad's durability and cause the two materials to split along with wearing out the mousepad's textured surface. The material does make the mousepad extremely easy to clean but requires you to WASH IT BY HAND. All it takes is some warm water, mild dish soap, and a non-abrasive sponge -- That's it. There is absolutely no need to run this thing through a washing machine, as most liquids and oils simply wipe away clean. Pat it dry and, you're good to go.The only "problem" I have had with this mousepad is the minor fraying and even that is not a big deal. Because the edges of the mousepad are heat-bonded, they will fray slightly, but it's nothing near as bad as some would make it out to be. ALL non-hard mousepads fray and the solution to this is to simply trim the frayed threads off with small scissors or carefully burn them away with a lighter (Please be careful). All in all, this mousepad is still going strong with very little wear on my hands or my mouse. As long as you use a little common sense when maintaining it, this should last you for quite some time.

The best mousepad money can buy
After 3 years of use, it's easily a glowing recommendation from me for this mousepad. The GLIDE is very thin, fast and has a soft touch with the hybrid cloth/rubberized surface. As an FPS fan I love it, especially with the upgraded Tiger ICE skates on my mouse. The fact that this mousepad has held up for so long for less than the price of a new game makes it a no brainer for me. I'll buy it again when the time comes but it is still in great shape after all this time! Not really even any fraying on the edges. As mentioned previously, I've owned the same GLIDE 38 for three years now. I have come close to replacing it many times but it's surprisingly easy to clean and restore to its original performance/appearance. I've washed it a bunch of times and wiped it down with Pledge a thousand times in between. It's held up phenomenally well despite being used every day for hours and subjected to the elements of work from home and gaming life. The spot where the mouse typically rests has worn in and slowed down a little bit, but scrubbing it with dish soap and warm water, then wiping with a towel and leaving to air dry restores the slick surface to 90-95% of what it was brand new, even with age. Wiping with Pledge on a rag also helps quite a bit with refreshing the surface in between washes. Replacing the mouse skates on my G502X with Tiger ICE made any sort of slowdown from wear nonexistent. They're quite literally the perfect combination.Hard to find anything bad to say about this mousepad other than that it is a little more expensive than typical. However the price is offset by the longevity and performance you get out of it. If you like a fast mousepad surface for gaming, this is hands-down the best you can get.
