The IC-M24 has a flashing light feature that activates when the radio hits water, even if the power is off! If you drop this floating radio overboard, it's easier to find than ever, day or night. The IC-M24 is powered by the 3.7V Lithium-Ion battery pack, BP-266, to reduce the volume and weight of the radio. A newly developed PA circuit produces 5W (approx.) RF output and powerful 600mW (typ.) audio even at this low voltage, while saving battery consumption for 10 hours of operating time. The large, easy to see 1.5" LCD offers a clear 2-digit channel number indication. Recharge the IC-M24 by plugging the wall charger directly in to the radio. By eliminating exposed metal charging points, the IC-M24 is even more protected from water damage. The volume loud/mute functions temporarily change the volume to the maximum/minimum level with two touches of a button. Depending on the background noise level, you can easily change the volume level to capture the received message. The Icom M24 is IPX7 waterproof, has a 4-step battery indicator, NOAA weather and weather alert, full scanning and dual watch functions, and AquaQuake speaker draining feature. Includes radio, battery pack, charger, belt clip, and hand strap. Three year warranty.

Solidly built
I bought this unit to replace my Uniden. The Icom M24 feels solid. I tested the watertightness by tossing it in the bath tub. No leak, it floats, and the beacon was turned on immediately. It's bigger than my non-floating Uniden Voyager, but I had replaced the Uniden twice due to water damage. That's just not acceptable. I'm liking the Icom a lot. The sound on the lowest volume is already loud enough for me. Reception was very clear. Was fishing at Fort Ross last week. I was able to talk to friends fishing at Ocean Cove about 5 miles away and it was loud and clear. Very happy with the unit.

ICOM IS THE BEST!
Our Lock and dam' are about 15miles apart i can talk from one end to the other zero problems its very clear . Im just a cat-fisherman but after losing a friend to a barge accident i dont take safety for granted anymore . This unit sounds very good and clear no issues i leave it out in the open in my boat all year long . The battery last a very long time . I have a base in my boat also but they last 1 year due to the weather . This unit works amazing i can hear very well and have no problems with our lock-masters or commercial traffic hearing me . Ive been a uniden/cobra customer for a very long time but this radio has worked so well ill never buy another ... ICOM for me now on! Im glad i spent the extra 30 bucks its well worth it . Ive had ZERO problems with it .... Its very loud if you want it to be and the speaker dose not sound like its going to burst .. Ive toss it in the water and it truly dose what it says . The Clip is stong and will clip on a life jacket very well . I wish i had the car charger but ill get around to ordering it .

Good value in a waterproof handheld.
I have this as a backup on my sailboat but I use it around the marinas more than my remote handheld Simrad, the volume for others is clearer. It does not have GPS or DCS, so it's actually not really the best choice as a true backup if you have to ditch. You may want to consider something else like the SH HX851 which at the time of this writing is being blown out at the same or lower price to make room for their new model. For the price it's still a decent little iPX rated handheld. The size is also a nice compromise.

It's pretty simple to use and has all the bell and ...
I have to say if their is one thing I bought in the last few years that is worth a review is this ICOM VHF radio. It's pretty simple to use and has all the bell and whistle as any other brands that cost much more. It floats and is water proof. I put it through some test and it works as claimed. The battery last for three months without charging and is still more than 3/4 full. I used it throughout the summer and never had to recharged it. Worth ever penny and the greatest asset when your boating.

VERY Happy
A nice little radio, works well for my intended purpose: communication back to our main boat from kayaks. I have a big Icom on-board, this radio operates similarly (but even more intuitively). Started flashing when I hosed it down with freshwater, exactly as the instructions promised. My 9yo operates it with no drama. Radio beeped and came alive on its own during a tornado warning.

Excellent Radio, nice design, easy to use! Go Icom..
Small and light weight and appears to have very good battery life. I live 5 miles from the water and completed a Radio check and immediately received a response. Icom radio's are known for quality. I love the float and flash feature so if you drop it overboard it can be recovered. I have a marine radio in my boat, and if my wife decides to sun bath on the island, I can go fish but stay in touch with her via radio.

Looks sturdy and it is quite easy to operate
I used this radio over the summer/fall sailing season. Does its job very well compared to the low price. Looks sturdy and it is quite easy to operate, but I did not test it under heavy-duty conditions.I don't like so much the volume and squelch controls (push buttons), but it is the way the cheap handheld radios are built today.

I think its perfect
I love this radio. Fits perfect in the radio pocket of my NRS Cvest. Super loud if you crank it up. Spend some time with the manual and all the features are pretty easy to figure out how to use. The dual watch is nice for me because i spend time in the NYS canal system on channel 13, with 16 monitored in the background.
