Batman Eternal (2014-2015) Vol. 1

Was good but not so great
Just finished reading. This story so far could have been done in less pages honestly. Wasn't any heart moving movements I look back and think on. A new character was introduced near the end who will be in the next, then a developing character in the making and one character's true loyalties has shifted.

Bumper Book Of Batman!
This volume contains issues 1-21 of the Batman Eternal weekly series as imagined by Scott Snyder & James Tynion IV and then written by six different authors and numerous artists, colourers and letterers. The fact that it emerges from that mix of talent as any kind of a coherent story at all is an achievement but it manages to do so and with style! Now Iβm not βall inβ with the bat family so the fact that so many of the extended family of heroes and villains appear here made the plot a lot more interesting and enjoyable for me, I got to see a lot more of the Batman universe than I normally do and so I think there is something in here for everyone, old fans and new alike. The story rattles along at breakneck speed and was compelling throughout, itβs a huge book, but itβs still a quick read as you donβt want to put it down. My favourite book of the year so far!

Great
This collection of issues paints a different picture of Gotham, it's heroes and villains. The artwork is fantastic, from a really varied team with a wide range of styles, adding depth and variety. When this arrived it had a crease running from the spine to the centre of the book, this was due to delivery and not the sellers fault.Highly recommend this as a worthy addition to anyone's batman collection. Saying that, it would also be a great introduction for new readers. Can't wait for volume 2

Really strong storyline
This is a really good, coherent and well drafted set of issues. The shift in artists at times creates something of a 'jar' but overall ther feel is really strong.Haven't read the New 52 Batman, so this was my first step into this world and I have to say that it was really worthwhile.Yes, I'll be seeking out Volume 2.

You get your money's worth
A god read, and a long one. You get your money's worth for the price. It is a little rambling at times but manages to stay on track. Looking forward to the second installment.

DC's New 52 reboot has been spotty at best, some titles like Green Lantern have carried on much as before with little change to the previous continuity and have been pretty good and some like Justice League, though essentially a greatest hits rehash, are at least fun. The same, sadly, cannot be said of Batman, over exposed with at least a dozen Bat-related titles of which Eternal is the most unnecessary. In the hand's of Scott Synder, DC's number one cash cow has become a dreary, pretentious, and over-written affair with every square inch of Gotham provided with a drawn-out history and every character/event, no matter how small, given a tenuous connection to the Wayne family.Get the reissued trade paperbacks of the pre-New 52 books like No Man's Land instead.

Fantastic!
Awesome, great series I'm a massive Batman fan and what Scott Snyder is doing is amazing. It's not as good as standard Batman but it's cool the DC gave Scott a team of writers to tell this particular Batman story, bring on vol 2.
