Mondo Wonderful !!! I don't know of any radio this small that has BOTH clarity and a semblance of bass
So I have my large boombox and my tiny Sony elcheapo ($12.97) radio but....What do you do when you are in a hurry and want something VERY portable with a semblance of actual bass output? This is it! It has rich full sound for it's small size. I'll go out on a limb and say it's almost compact hi-fi.PROS:> The fact that it can play MP3s from a microSD card (they call it a TF card) is a bonus. Up to 32GB capacity card and max. 9999 songs.> It has a STEREO HEADPHONE output jack (3.5mm) and output even though the unit has mono speaker.> RICH SOUND. Don't worry about the "mono" speaker!!! It's sound output is punchy and wonderously GREAT!!!> It has a 3.5mm Audio In jack. Meh... might be useful.> Many options given to you for selecting channels: You can do direct keypad entry, or let it auto-search or use a wheel (i.e. old skool) to search for stations.> It stores stations.> The charging "guts" are built in. It uses a cell phone battery. You can charge it via (USB from computer or USB from Wall plug - which they do not give you) and you can charge spare batteries. What else: It has Shortwave (2 bands) which I haven't bothered to check out. That might be nice in an emergency?CONS:* This radio "comes into it's own" (sound performance-wise) when you turn it up to a level of "5" (where the marker line on the volume wheel is centered. However, by that time it's so loud that you are not listening to this just for yourself. You are (at that point) blasting to everyone in 25 - 30 feet. At lower volumes you won't fully experience the entire bass and punch this radio's amplifier and built-in speaker can put out. It's not bad at lower volumes, just more "polite"/subdued. Now, even at low volume levels you always have vocal clarify. The bass comes out when you turn it up.* They give you a little plastic outrigger "footie" stand that plugs into the back of the unit in case you want to have radio sit on a table "tilt facing" you at a 45 degree angle. This works, it's a nice idea, but the little plastic outrigger piece can get easily lost. Possible solution: Keep it attached when not in use with a small dot of Velcro?* You have to hold in the power button for a second or so to turn off the unit. This is intentional because it also has a sleep timer integrated into the power button. Once you get used to turning it off properly, this is no big deal.* It's $40.00 bucks. Which to some will seem like a lot for a tiny radio. Wait till you fire it up though.OTHER things: They give you a 1ft USB adapter. They give you a short 3.5mm male plug --> 3.5mm male plug cable. You get a hand strap.UNKNOWNS:I can't tell you about remote gain or distant selectivity / cloud skip / "DXing" etc. I live in a large modern city and have my choice of 6 well spaced FM stations. I'm not deprived of good stations where I live. I ** can ** say that I have no cross talk, wavering, static or distortion when I tune in with this unit. Just warm clear sound.OTHER INFO:* You get a strap which they leave it to you whether to install it or not.* This is really a "Kaito" brand (source manufacturer) device.* There is a very similar version marketed with a model number of "M8" - I suggest not buying it as for the same price this unit has all the same features and includes the 2 ShortWave bands. By choosing the S8, you are essentially getting the shortwave feature free.SUMMARY: If you want a quality audio experience in a grab-and-go small package, I know of no other self-contained unit that sounds this good.HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDADDENDUM 6/29/14: What I've realized is so cool about this radio/mp3 player is: unlike your big stereo where it "takes over" the room sonically, engulfs you and you almost "have" to listen to it - with the Meloson, it's more of an "inviting choice: It can be a pleasant, steady companion you can appreciate while reading, hanging out, etc. yet it's good enough to dance to if you turn it up. (We found ourselves spontaneously dancing in the kitchen the other day to "The Night Time is the Right Time (Ray Charles). At first were merely listening to other songs, liked it, turned it up and voila...a micro party of sorts : ) This somehow never happens with the computer feed to our big stereo. My best analogy is: You are not "told" to listen, you are invited to engage. It may sound woo-woo but that's how we experience it. While the mp3 songs are not as searchable as an IPOD (just folder numbers and song numbers), I find myself more pleasantly surprised. I will take this over an iPod anyday.ONE CAVEAT: Be careful of which SD card you get. We purchased what we considered to be a legitimate Sandisk brank MicroSD card and the unit does these subtle micro-hiccups every 2 - 3 minutes. The owner's manual states that not all cars are compatible but does not proceed to tell you which ones ARE. I'm not going to ding a star for that because I love this unit just the same.

No warranty information and quality issues
In the ways that I needed a radio, this falls short.AM antenna does not pull in signal strength sufficient for me to get the stations I want to hear in my reception area in SoCal.Tuning is great because you can preset, enter frequency manually or use the dial tuner. When using FM, signal is good but be careful when you pull out the antenna. Mine came out with two little clips/spacers that are intended to keep it anchored. Not much pressure was used when I pulled my antenna to maximum length and the whole thing came out. The small clips are hard to find when they spring out. I tried to put the antenna back in (very difficult , I improvised something akin to piston ring compressors) but the antenna would not stay inside it's mount.I have been over the manual several times and there is no number to get ahold of manufacturer and no mention of warranty. I am going to contact seller for advice.

Very Loud
After pouring over reviews on amazon for this radio I decided this might be the portable radio for me. Radio was well packaged when it arrived. The volume this radio was capable of for something of this size is impressive, reception was also impressive. I was able to pick up several station from Chicago, i live on the OK/TX border so it was impressive to get am reception for stations 1000 miles away. Radio functioned well other wise mp3 funtion worked well, shortwave reception was spotty depending on weather conditions but did function. However i did have a problem with the volume control being very jumpy, and the antenna is not well secured. But Amazon took care of this issue quickly by allowing me to return the item.

Awesome sound, and love the power options
This is amazingly worth the money and more. I'm listening to it from the other room. It's tiny in size (easy to carry, put in a backpack, etc) but the bass in this thing is stunning for such a small item.I haven't used the MP3 functionality as I didn't order a separate TF card when I made this purchase, so I'll come back to update this review once it's tested.I played with the different radio bands but only focused on the FM band to be honest - I'm actually keen to try out the auto-shutoff + MP3 functionality so I can let my grandson fall asleep to classical music.O the power bit - quite nice. The battery is basically a variation of a removable/replaceable mobile phone battery powered by a supplied microusb cable. The radio plays while charging and even plays when the battery has been removed.Sweet unit.
