Probably wrong to give it one star..........I did not even read it, but read" Slubgrip Instructs" first.......and it was so bad, I did not even try this one. YES, I know -- that is not fair, but with so many books and so little time left (I'm 80) I decided just to stick with all those books I can hardly put down........Like St. Teresa of Avila(her Autobiography) and our previous wonderful Pope Benedict XVI (Jesus of Nazareth) and soooooooo many more!! Thanks Amazon for making so easy!IT WAS not FAIR........after I wrote the review above.........I realized that it is completely UNFAIR to critic something without reading it........so I picked it up -- I'm 1/2way thru, and am enjoying it a lot!! This book would be really good for a NEW Christian or Convert to the Catholic Faith.. I remembered some of those "mistakes" from my first years in the Faith many decades ago..........so, BUY the Book..........so sorry about my hasty review.

Young adult and older. Although this book advertises that its good to read during Lent, it can be read at anytime of the Liturgical year. This book was very easy to read and did not take alot of time. It gave a good description of hell in the sence that in hell there is absolutely NO love at all. Even the demons that are supposedly "friends" with each other are only out for themselves and they will back stab eachother. (I could never live like that! I think that would be my biggest fear of hell .... that no one would love me there!) The book also brings out the fact that there is a CONSTANT battle for the human soul here on earth. The details of that battle are brought out in the letters of the demons describing the work they do as they try to cause humans to sin. There are also mentioned times in which the demons' efforts are thwarted by "the enemy" (God and His angels). This book has a Catholic perspective and, being Catholic myself, I learned about some areas that definately applied to me and that I can work on changing! A good book to read for help in resisting evil and staying on the narrow road to heaven!

In the tradition of "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis, "The Gargoyle Code" is a record of correspondence among the devil's tempters. In this book, however, the correspondence is not just advice from a master to a novice but also among tempters, revealing infighting and political maneuvering. This adds to the entertainment of the work.The book is written to read one letter a day during Lent. However, I couldn't wait to find out how it ended, so I finished it before Easter! It is fascinating to consider our lives from the other side--how events in our lives can be used by evil spirits to hinder or completely reverse our growth in faith and holiness.I highly recommend this book. Read it any time of the year!

Wow! Very accurate descriptions of what happens in life with evil and people. The demons are very scary. Be on gaurd and pray.

I've been reading this book, one entry per day, through Lent. Fr. Longenecker has taken C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters" concept to a whole new level for Catholics. Presenting the shortcomings that many Catholics will readily admit as tricks of the Devil is a great wake-up call. Conversely, showing the glories of the Sacraments, particularly Reconciliation, as so anathema to the agents of Darkness reinforces their power to transform our lives and lead us to heaven. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Catholics and non-Catholics alike will find it inspirational.

Although it's disturbing about how the devil works and all the ways he traps people into sin, it is a good book to read to remind us of all the ways we sin. I don't think there was a sin that wasn't covered and it talked about all the ways we can get trapped in sin. It also talks about how God can often help us overcome it, usually when the devil least expects it. I recommend this eye opening book.

This was just as good as The Screwtape Letters. Fr. Longenecker kept within the same style as CS Lewis and the humor was there on every page. It was written for a Lenten read with a letter a day during Lent, but I confess that I read it like a book and enjoyed it just as much.

I have really enjoyed this book, since Screwtape Letters is one of my favorite books, and this one is along the same lines, It really makes me think about how Satan uses all he can to get us to fall and follow his ways instead of God's ways. The down side is that there are some blank pages in the kindle edition which is very frustrating!

Excellent daily reader for Lent. Not too long, humorous, and instructive. Love it!!

I really liked this. Inspired by C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters, this follows the journey of diabolics as they journey through the Lenten season as they try to influence their "patients". Hard to put down and pace yourself throughout Lent. Well worth reading.

A book to take on holiday or a long haul flight, and better for you than Nitrezepam. I can't remember the plot, but I know it has one, and it certainly helped me to cope with a long flight.

I'm a devout Catholic and was looking for something spiritual to read during Lent, but I was unpleasantly surprised when reading this book. I couldn't even finish it.

That's okay - just buy the book shake hands with the arthor, and enjoy. Not going to tell you more - it would spoil the whole thing.
