When buying my IH184 I knew that those old motors were always temperamental when starting and usually very cold blooded. This tractor didn't vary....it was difficult starting - always having to diddle with it just the right way to get it to pop. Then came the day that it wouldn't start at all, and decided I was done messing with the points and decided to upgrade to the Pertronix electronic ignition (I took their recommendation and bought the flamethrower coil as well). First off, while I'm a seasoned mechanic, anyone with even rudimentary mechanical skills would find installing this kit extremely easy. Most importantly, once I had it installed and went to try to start it, it started immediately upon turning the key!!!!!!! It starts right off the bat every time and seems like it runs smoother and has more power than before!!!! I highly recommend this product!!!!!!!

I installed the PerTronix 1442 on my Farmall Super H with original IH distributor #353898R2. Was Very easy to install, though I wanted to reuse the original dust cover, so I needed to remove some material between the rotor and the exciter ring, so they didn't rub. Also, after installing I checked the timing, and it was off about 20 degrees. Should be ATC or 0 degrees at warm idle. I adjusted that, and finetuned the highspeed jet on the carburetor, about 1/2 turn out from where it was and now runs so! good. Lots of torque. Doesn't stumble at all. You would never know this was a 1954 model!

i BOUGHT A 1442 PERTRONiX iGNiTOR FOR my 400 FARMALL about 2015 = $93 & WAS GRREAAAT FOR about 6 YEARS of MiNiMAL USE With TRACTOR But FOR LAST 2 YEARS THE 400 WOULD ONLY RUN about 1/2 RPMs & TheN WOULD NOT START SO i PUT THE OLD POiNTS & CONDENSER BACK in & NOW = STARTS UP & TRACTOR REVS UP To FULL RPMs AGAiN SO = i m NOT NOT Gonna BUY A NEW PERTRONiX iGNiTOR about $118 NOW = DEC 2023 JUST me GARY LUNZ LAUREL NEBRASKA

Easy to install and my tractor runs great

I had to purchase this product 2 time's with in 45 days . And Now i have to buy it for a 3rd time . This is all with in 45 days .I bought this product , installed it , worked good for only 1 week then it quit firing again. I use the tractor every day with the work I do , that being said no tractor no work.. so to get it up and going again,, I decided to order another one so it would be on the way while the other one was being sent back for refund. Thought i was on top of things by doing it that way since i got to have it for the tractor so I can work .Got the 2nd one in the mail. Installed it . It worked for 36 days and can't return . Only 6 days past the 30 day return policy. Now I have to order this item again for the 3rd time with in 45 days.Yes I'm very unhappy with the product ,Completely Unsatisfied with this product failure

Easy to install. Took more time to read the directions then do the install. Before I had a points that were a year old. Tractor was sluggish didn't wanna start right up. Now you touch the button and it's running. Ran it around with a wheel harrow on it quick made a big difference with the power. The kit calls for a non solid copper plugs... I left had a new set of copper solid plugs champion D21s. Made no difference. I would recommend this kit to anyone. Takes 5 mins to install if you've done points before. 15 for the average joe if you haven't

I installed this in a Farmall 300 to replace the points/condenser. Very easy to install... Pertronix provided everything. The distributor used on this Farmall 300 did require some slight modification to get this kit installed... I had to make a 1" dia. counterbore on the back side of the plastic spark plate (plate under the rotor) about 1/16" deep and had to file off about 1/16" from the end of the magnet cap included with the Pertronix kit. When I first installed the magnet cap over the rotor post, it was too tall and the distributor cap could not be installed. These modifications allowed it to install properly. Otherwise, the mounting plate just dropped right. Once installed, I saw immediate improvement in starting and running performance--I had been having trouble with it missing when cold and under load... no longer an issue! I'm a VERY HAPPY customer and plan to order a kit for my other two tractors as well.
