Good information, not so easy read.
I will say, E. A. Wallis Budge is very fascinating, thorough, and meticulously referenced. On the other hand, the book is over 100 years old so the referencing is archaic, the language & attitudes reflect the times (i.e. calling prehistoric Africans savages), and he cannot go in a straight line. His chapters are a wild adventure because he follows every squirrel, shiny thing or side-quest to it's end. And while it is interesting to look at, I'm not sure the Summarian, Hebrew or hieroglyphs add anything to the text. That said, I have already purchased The Gods of the Egyptians Part II and invested in a stenograph notebook just to keep the lines straight. I expected more Egyptian mythos and less Hebrew, but the conclusions he comes with are very very convincing and fascinating.

Great Historical Record
Kemetic spirituality in its multidimensionality in metaphysical space and time, has presented an array of physical forms of splendour and elegance to behold bytoday's curious. Lifespring for diversification as offshoots as reflected in modernreligion and new age practice is not enough to adequately capture its impact. Fantasyas one interest and a dimension for indulgence in what could constitute a basis forpropelling the mind forward in creative endeavor in the creative arts as a self-sustainingmechanism in continuance of what efforts already exist today, sounds promising. What A.E. Budge did in this book was record history. I will reserve some of the excesses of him andhis cohorts' actions to other critics; suffice it to say that what is available to me is alens that may have been totally lost or buried in the annals of sanctity of the memories of ourancestors, the extent in of itself which would have been only limited to oral tradition and historywith its associated dangers of obvious degradation over time. The comments that ancient Egyptians were savages is self-evident as a byproduct of the deliberateand promoted complexes that formed part of the operative strategic anchors of the Britishempire - admittedly, some items stolen from Egypt still exist in the British museum. Did I hearhim criticize another for linking masturbation to the actions of our ancestors and calling itunholy within the context of self-gratifying holier-than-thou referencing? Perhaps it was yetanother instance of the hitherto mentioned lapse as contextualized morality, especiallyof the secret yet overtly public acts of the cloaked and orthodox; an irony.Thank you, Mr. Budge. Besides me not getting enough of the book's content, you have opened my eyesto the spiritual ways of the Kemet by indulging my fantasies. With regard to the functional impact on myspirituality, I will reserve that to the realm of the deeply personal and private. Forward to Vol II.

Please take all antique writings with a grain of salt.
Please take all antique writings with a grain of salt. I believe that one needs to view and interpret this book within the cultural milieu of 1900. I am not defending the ethnocentrism of that time or the occasional downright bigotry in this book. But don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Like it or not, all of Budge's works on Egyptology are vital historical records and treatises. He is the one turn of the century egyptologist who approaches the subject from a magical and mystical perspective. If you are looking for the most up-to-date information on Ancient Egypt, this book is not for you. But if you are looking for some books that capture the Magick of Egypt that influenced Hermetic traditions such as the Golden Dawn and A^A^, I think that this book along with its companion volume, as well as Egyptian Magic and The Egyptian Religion (both by Budge and available on Amazon), are four essential source documents.

A Very Detailed Book
Hard to read at times, due to the archaic language of a century ago that is used in the book. A big plus is the in-depth description of each of the gods & goddesses, along with many illustrations.

Informative
This book is a very unique, specific, and informative account of the practices of Egyptian mythology; it's very advanced though, so I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner
