Follow That Dream

First rate Elvis from a second rate video company.
Twilight Time video is a company that specialized in bloated, over-priced retail and nothing quality-wise to set it above the five dollar bin at the mall chain store. Picture quality is improved, but serious Elvis collectors are still waiting for this to get a proper restoration. Even the cover and inserts look like a counterfeit, but the truth is, based on the two examples I've seen of their "product", they are a second rate video company with products that look like a bootleg, which is pretty bold considering the ridiculous inflated original retail price, which was cut in half after the thing had been in release for a while. This film is still a joy to watch. Written by the genius that wrote The Beverly Hillbillies, Elvis is as well-cast as he ever was in his career. This is the perfect Elvis movie, the perfect drive-in movie, full of great comic writing and beautiful girls (Joanne Moore and Anne Helm), a few great Elvis tunes, and once you get past the shoddy presentation of Twilight Time, this movie still shines.

Fine Elvis Movie
Follow That Dream is definitely a period piece now, although it wasn't when it was first released. Homesteading in Florida ? Well, times were different. that said, the script is good, the songs are fair.Elvis actually acts and inhabits his role. But what really holds this together are the fine character actors of its time. You will instantly recognize many of them, including Howard McNear (Floyd The Barber on Andy Griffith Show ). The star of these supporting actors is,of course, Arthur O'Connell as Elvis's characters father. For clean old fashioned fun, watch "Follow That Dream."

Bluray Twilight Time Limited Edition Only 3,000 copies mass produced.
I just purchased Follow That Dream on Bluray. This is a Twilight Time limited edition blu ray of which there were only 3,000 manufactured copies so I jumped at the chance to purchase it since so few Elvis Presley movies have been released to blu ray and I want to upgrade to blu ray format.Oddly, "Follow That Dream" is one of the few Elvis Presley movies that is not available in digital format either. Clambake, Follow That Dream, and Change Of Habit are the only Elvis Presley movies that are not available in digital format to date.To date the following 8 Elvis Presley movies have been released on Bluray format (which are too few) - Tickle Me (German Released Explosive Media), Clambake (Kino Studios), Flaming Star (Twilight Time Limited Release), Follow That Dream (Twilight Time Limited Release), Frankie and Johnny, Love Me Tender, Jailhouse Rock, and Viva Las Vegas.

So cute
This is a cute movie. Actually in 2013 seems like a fantasy. Land in Florida undeveloped? But this party of 5 find it by accident and get to claim it. Elvis has two beautiful songs in it - Follow that Dream which is dreamy to watch him singing it laying in the sand. And "Angel" - if anyone can sing that pretty you better get yourself on stage - you are destined for a good future. The father -played by Arthur McConnell, who also was Jimmy Stewart's law side kick in Anatomy of a Murder - is perfect in this role - explaining how he tries to help the govt out with everything it wants to do. lolAnne Helm, the sister type girl in the movie - is fine and not at all silly like other Elvis costars to come. The movie is a mood lifter, an easy time with great color scenery is excellent. Elvis plays honest but adorable. easy to get along with hard to push around and slick without knowing it.But when he sings 'Angel' - who's fooling who. Nice Elvis movie. Proud to have it. Funny and silly. I am a Love Me Tender Jailhouse Rock King Creole Flaming Star type of Elvis movie fan (ok I have Change of Habit).

Elvis can act when given the chance
I agree with other reviewers that Elvis can act if given a chance. He did a great job in this movie, even though it was kind of cheesy. I really liked his genuine southern accent, which he hasn't been able to use in most of his movies (I am originally from the South, and I can tell when an accent is genuine:)The only thing that I didn't really like was several of the songs that he sang were obviously done offsite. There was huge orchestration. which one little ol' guitar can not make, plus Elvis delivering an echoing rendition. I would prefer he just sing without all the extras.I like it when Elvis is allowed to act; I'm not sure what Colonel Parker's motives were, but Elvis should have been allowed to ACT, not just put out movie after movie without substance. He did a good job in Flaming Star, too, but I enjoyed this one a little more.

Worth The Price To Me!
Very few people even know this movie is out on blu-ray because only Twilight Time has it. But if you're a died in the wool fan you gotta have it!! It's in widescreen as well!Looks great and sounds great. I have always liked this movie with a top notch supporting cast and a credible performance by the King with some cute songs and enough conflict to keep you on the edge of your seat.I decided I could go out to dinner...or I could buy me this movie I'd watch more than once for sure. The movie won. The price is steep I know and if too much for you I'm sure since it's now been upgraded a cheaper version will appear. You can wait a bit longer if you must.

Elvis does Richard Powell
This little known Elvis Presley movie is based on a fun book by Richard Powell "Pioneer, Go Home". It is about a poor Georgia family driving to Florida where they get off on an unfinished highway, run out of gas, and homestead. The picture is a commentary on our society and our government, and it's a very different part for Elvis, who plays a Jethro Clampett type character. Good fun.

ONE TIMES ONE IS ONE ...
Fabulous acting from Elvis. Follow That Dream is a great light hearted 1961 film for all. Very funny and entertaining, with terrific natural scenery and songs.Elvis was naturally funny anyway, and gifted with natural timing. Even when on stage in his later years, some of his quips in between songs were hysterically funny. One of his best attributes was that he never took himself as seriously as the world did.Another bonus in the movie are the other actors. Some of them were quite famous in their own right, namely:Anne Helm as the lovely HollyArthur O'Connell as PopThe beautiful Joanna Moore as Alisha (she would later marry actor Ryan O'Neal)Jack Kruschen as CarmineSimon Oakland as gangster leader NickRoland Winters as JudgeAlan Hewitt as H. Arthur KingThe always hilarious Howard McNear as George (you'll remember him from Blue Hawaii)This is one of my favourite Elvis movies. You'll even get to see Elvis' natural hair colour throughout the film. I thoroughly recommend you add it to your collection.

A surprising Elvis performance
This film was not what I expected and a pleasant surprise. Elvis takes a role unlike any in his other films. He play it straight but funny (Forrest Gump type character) and shows his comic talent. It's dated of course and a fanciful, feel good story line about being 'an honest man' but I found it an enjoyable, light- hearted film. The songs and the way Elvis sings them are are totally out of sinc with the story line and the character he plays (farcical really!) but if you can overlook that, there are a couple of good ones.

A great entertaining Elvis movie!
This DVD is excellent, both the quality of the transfer AND Elvis's acting. The film is hardly ever shown on TV, which is a pity because it is pure family entertainment. Elvis does a great job portraying his character. His sense of timing and the way he plays the part is just great! He really was a good actor and this film shows a very different role. It's amusing and sometimes touching and Elvis plays his part very well, as good as some leading actors. The songs don't distract from the feel of the film and only add to a very enjoyable experience. I would recommend this not only for fans but anyone who hasn't given an Elvis film a chance. You won't be disappointed.

ELVIS THE SINGER AND ALSO THE ACTOR ( BRILLIANT)
I saw this Elvis film at the cinema, many years ago and it was a FAVOURITE then. Glad I bought this DVD, to be able to watch it again. I wasn't disappointed. FANTASTIC quality, and touching storyline. The court room scenes were Great with that little twist, that proved very beneficial, to the family. Well acted by all. I loved the slow relationship between Elvis and Holly, which eventually blossomed at the end. when he sang my FAVOURITE ELVIS SONG ( ANGEL) for her. I just didn't want it to end!!!!!! Ed. Lindsley.

Terrible
Dreary, dreary. They must have left the Ham in the oven too long when they thought this one up.

Follow that Dream
It may not have the same appeal of Blue Hawaii, but this have been one of my favourite Presley movies ever since I saw on the big screen in my youth. And in days cinema's did have big screens, unlike today's multiscreen viewing rooms. However, I digress, the story is a bit far-fetched, in which Elvis is part of a 'clampit' style family, whose car runs out of fuel on a closed highway, soon be opened to traffic. Which creates problems between the authorities and the family.

It's Elvis so that means 5*. Ok so it may not be one of his best ( certainly not his worst) but it helped me complete my collection.Any fan should purchase as his movies and concert videos are the only way you get to see him now he's gone.
