Quilt Math: 100 Reproducible Activities That Motivate Kids to Practice Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Fractions, Decimals, and More

I am a fourth grade teacher, and like all teachers, I am always looking for activities to both challenge my students and to keep them busy in a useful way when they finish their work early. This Quilt Math book really does both of those.After learning a skill in math, students really need practice....practice....practice for that skill to become ingrained. I love that this book is full of those computation skills that kids need to practice. I could give them worksheets, but they would be bored with that; yet, in this book they are doing the same kind of work they would get on a worksheet, but since they get to color it and see the pattern, it is fun for them!In my math class, I make copies from this book of whatever skill we are working on, as well as previous skills we have already covered, and the students love to go and get one of the pages to complete if they finish their regular work early. Classroom management issues can occur when students are bored or do not have anything useful to be doing, and these pages not only keep them busy, but most of them take a significant amount of time to complete, between doing all of the computation as well as the coloring. Most student get a page and take several days to finish it (since they typically only work on it for a short amount of time during the class). Some students even ask to take them home!This book says for grades 4-6, and I have to agree with that. My 4th graders can typically do the work, but there are a few that struggle. Some of the computation is lengthy and difficult, so keep that in mind if you have fourth graders who are struggling or generally below grade level. Also, if you have 7th or even 8th graders who are lower academically, or even a small amount of students who are like that, this book may be a really useful resource.The kids love it, it keeps them busy, and reinforces their math computation at the same time. Love it!

This book has no room to work out the problems and set up in patterns which is very difficult for the child to understand. There are a lot of other books out there that are much better. I would not recommend buying this book.

I ordered this because my teaching partner had a copy, and I kept borrowing it. These are great fun worksheets for practicing math fluency. I used them with fourth graders last year, and I use them with fifth grade this year.

Love these in my special education classroom as a fun independent practice sheet. They like that once they do the math, they can take a break and color

Im using the book in 5th grade, but it's great for even 3rd grade students. The level of difficulty varies according to topic. The quilt designs are basic enough for lower grades in elementary school, but could've been better if they were more difficult for upper elementary level. I would recommend this book to any math teacher in 3-5th grades.

Kids love doing this, not realizing this is reinforcing their Math skills. As a teacher, this is easy to check.

Excellent inventory in the front of what's available in the book. Lots of great options for students who need practice and enrichment.
