Johnson Controls A19AAT-2C Freezer Temperature Controller (D132) (5-(Pack))

I bought 2 of these to turn some Frigidaire (FGCH25M8LW) chest freezers into refrigerators. It looked simple enough and I could not find any real evidence to suggest that this thermostat shutting off the power to the compressor was going to harm the life span of the freezer.The one thing that I didn't do correctly (that in hindsight was fairly obvious) was that initially I left the gas filled sensor inside the freezer and ran the remaining 6 feet of copper tubing outside the freezer to the controller. I realized that was probably dumb as it would leave a significant surface area exposed to the outside temp that could skew the thermostat settings. OK, simple enough to fix. I just coiled the copper tubing back up, secured it to the inside of the freezer and mounted the controller to the outside leaving only a few inches of exposed copper which I insulated. Overkill? Maybe, but for that absurdly difficult change it's no longer a problem to with which to concern myself.So if you are looking at one of these to make a freezer into a fridge, it was simple and so far (2 months as of this review) it's worked without any fiddling needed. I'm happy. Unrelated to the actual product but related to its use. I have had a freezer and "converted" fridge running though Kill-a-Watt meters for about a month. The Frigidaire freezer takes about 45 watts per hour to run at the factory set freezer temp. The modded fridge is set with the Johnson controller to 38˚F and run about 15 watts per hour.

Freaking awesome, I can use my chest freezer year round now! I use my freezer throughout the winter to store my quarry, however once we empty it out around July, it typically just sat. Now I use it for brewing Kombucha, fermenting, storing fruit and vegetables before canning, and also as fridge while processing meat come fall. Really dig this thing and it's so simple to install. I picked up another chest freezer to increase capacity. I find the temp range is perfect.

I bought this to complete a kegging system project using a cheaper scratch and dent apartment size refrigerator from one of the big box stores. The problem I was having was that the keg would keep icing up due to the air not circulating like it would in a better quality refrigerator. This solved the problem. I placed the sensor at the base of the keg since settling of the cool air seemed to be what was causing my icing. IT WORKED. An additional benefit could be the energy savings with the refrigerator being completely powered down running less. The temperature setting is accurate. Now we have ice cold beer without the ice.The capillary tube is very thin so it doesn't effect the seal of the door. It might take some creativity mounting of the controller and running of the capillary tube. It does come with a chain to hang it or keyhole slots on the back. I have a heavy duty magnetic coat hook that I stuck on the side of the refrigerator and hung the control unit from it.

Very easy to use. Hang it on the side of the freezer, plug the freezer into the plug of this unit, put the probe inside the freezer and set the temp to 35 degrees. Make sure you put a thermometer in the freezer and check temps regularly. My unit is about 5 degrees off; so I need to set this unit at 30 degrees to achieve approx 34-35 degrees. Also, this until powers the freezer off when cooling is not needed so when you open the door you do not get a light to come on (unless it is in the process of cooling). Which will happen if you leave the door open for a minute or two.Overall, I am very happy with the unit. Well built and sturdy. Probe was plenty long to put it where I needed it in the freezer.

I'm using this on an upright freezer 19.5 cu ft, converted to a wine cooler. It holds at 55F consistently. Be sure to place the majority of the capillary tube coil inside the compartment about midway between top and bottom, leaving minimum of copper outside to the control. Turn the thermostat on the FREEZER to the coldest setting to reduce cycling and save the compressor. I would recommend investing in a thermometer to verify temperature. You may need to make minor adjustments to the A19AAT-2C in order to get the temp you desire. Once you get there, you should never have to change the setting again. I keep whites in the bottom(its colder there) and reds above. Even so, the temperature isn't 2F +/- top to bottom.This device saved me a fortune on buying an expensive, flashy wine cooler!! I now store about 100 bottles for a fraction of the cost of a sophisticated wine cooler.

It works well enough to convert a freezer to special purpose refrigerator. I needed it to maintain a fairly narrow temperature range between 31 and 34 degree Fahrenheit and it does just that. However, you have to initially play with the temperature setting to achieve your desired temperature range. It is about 7 degrees off. In order to get the freezer to 32 degrees, my unit had to be set at 25 degrees. But once set, it maintains the 7 degree plus temp. setting very consistently. The thermometer looks somewhat fragile but as long as you don't repeatedly bend it or move it, it should be fine. I set mine slightly offset from the freezer wall, halfway down.

I'm very happy with this product as a controller to turn my chest freezer into a refrigerator. This product is perfect for doing this. Very important to mount the thermostat unit in a vertical manner. Mounted vertically the unit keeps to the 3.5 degree differential. I have the freezer setting at the lowest (warmest) setting, which is 8 degrees, and the Johnson Controller easily keeps the chest freezer at 38-41 degrees
