Alice in Wonderland (Wordsworth Collector's Editions)

I bought this book as a present for a child. It was very well received and I know the child likes it.

4/5 • Like most people I first read Alice in Wonderland, as a child. I don’t recall reading Through The Looking Glass, although it’s quite possible that I did. And, like most people, I’ve seen numerous adaptations made for the screen. Consequently, I knew what to expect. Both of these stories have been analyzed to the nth degree by literary scholars, and there’s really nothing I can add except a few very subjective comments. I think these are books best considered in historical context. I can imagine the impact they must have made when first published. No doubt they seemed remarkable and audacious. Reading them in the 21st century perhaps elicits a slightly different response, due to changes in the literary landscape over the intervening 150 years. They’re still classics, there’s no doubt about that, but they don’t seem quite as extraordinary as they probably did in Carroll’s day. Most of the allusions and references will be lost on today’s adult readers, but this won’t be of concern to younger ones. The prose is a little clunky at times, but again I think this is due to the age of the texts. One thing that did strike me was how macabre they can be at times. I don’t recall being conscious of this as a child but there really is a quite gruesome streak running through these books. Anyway, they’re still an appealing read all these years after they first appeared, and I’ve no doubt they will remain so for many more to come.

Lovely book ordered as a gift. The gold writing on the front is gorgeous. As other reviews, the corners were a tiny bit damaged/faded but nothing that matters too much. Will be ordering other books in the range for gifts and my baby!

One of my favourite stories of all time all compact in this very pretty little book. It has some illustrations inside too. A wonderful addition to my bookshelf.

I am trying to encourage all my grandchildren to read some of the classics and so I was delighted to see this version of “Alice” … all pretty in pink for my lovely little granddaughter. I’m sure she will be inspired…

Needed a copy of this classic book for a gift . The cover is so pretty it was perfect .

Estou apaixonada, é uma edição muito linda , desde a capa até as ilustrações no livro. Ele é bem pequenino e fino (do tamanho da minha mao para ser exata ), mas se tratando de uma edição de coleção ele deve seguir um padrão. Sobre a entrega ocorreu tudo bem e o livro veio bem embalado e protegido bastante até. Sem rasuras ou avarias. As edições dessa editora são simplesmente maravilhosas e com certeza vou adquirir os outros.

The book was kinda of dented and it smelled as tho it was rotting. It was like a old smell as if the book was put into a box or a shelf for a long peroid of time 😭
