I think it's amazing
I was skeptical about ordering this product with so many negative reviews, but I absolutely love it, one of My favorite snacks, though It is very salty, It's amazing on fresh sushi

Think twice before you order this.
I ordered the red caviar because that was what I I had been craving for the last 3 weeks and I wanted it more than anything else I'm wanted to be able to get the red and the Black Canyon from the same maker but I was having problems locating the red when I finally wrote check no chain of it I ordered it and the black one at the same time it was made by the same company it was for the same grade and it is for the same amount which was 2 oz ea.Now when I opened the jars which as I said it was made by and shipped 1 day apart from the same company but you wouldn't have known this had you seen them the red was cloudy and sticky at the same time. It was like the base was a mix of glue and food coloring it was orange and white(peach) the eggs were medium orange in color. The black one was nice and grainy and tasted very good when it exploded into your mouth and was totaly worth the money that red stuff was NOT. I T wanted to explain why I had to use such a low rating so others would know why would never order it again. no way no how I think I should get my money back. I mean I've had better caviar from a grocery store although it was not very good either.

Romanoff caviar...
This Romanoff red salmon roe is versatile. Let me explain. My first impression upon opening the jar was that it was a bit salty, had a nice quantity of split eggs but overall the flavor was smokey and fishy in a not unpleasant kind of way, kinda like smoked lox. Really great for a dip, or as an ingredient. A little bit into the jar, though, I got curious, what if I just dumped it all into a colander, gave it a good rinse, and jarred it? I know it was a risk (hey, this stuff costs like thirteen bucks) but I went for it. And guess what? I still had PLENTY of caviar left; and best of all, every single one, was a plump, juicy, pearl, still packed w/ flavor only slightly milder and w/o any broken eggs getting in the way.For thirteen dollars, especially the gourmet market being as robust as it is today, I don't expect anything near the quality of ultra-fresh 'sushi grade' salmon roe, but this holds its own.

Decent Medium size Salmon Roe
I frequently enjoy Japanese style Ikura roe which if anyone truly enjoys they know this is a salty roe. While the flavor of this roe was enjoyable, the contents are less than appealing for sure.I poured the contents out into a small dish and let the roe settle and the "goo" spread out so you can then scoop out the roe and leave the most of the liquid behind. I read reviews where they rinsed the roe off but unless I am doing canapes or for decoration, they are fine as is. I typically use for sushi or sashimi style in small cucumber cups.There was some broken eggs but mostly intact. This is a medium size roe, not large as advertised. The package I received had 460g sodium vs the 430g pictured in this listing.Overall, a decent product but there are several better options such as the Sasanian brand which is a slightly larger roe but cleaner in packaging. The Sasanian is also less salty for those complaining this was too salty.I also agree with the other comments made about the packaging by Amazon. Product was in a small bubble wrap bag then placed inside a basic Amazon poly bag. I believe this should have at least been in an insulated bag to protect from outside weather though this is not a refrigerated caviar and is typically on standard grocer shelves.The best Ikura Roe that I have found is the Salmon Keta. This is more expensive but you get what you paid for. Keta is the largest size Salmon roe I have had and a nice salty taste yet not overdone. When I buy this, I get the frozen divided 1KG packages that can be thawed out 1 section at a time.Final note...Would I buy this again? probably not.

Not Worth It
For some reason this batch wasn't very good. It was more liquid than eggs; and it was overly salty.

The old gray mare
This caviar “ain’t what it USED TO be!” I Used to buy this very same Romanoff caviar ten years ago in Chicago. This is not the same today in Florida! This is realllly salty, popped eggs galore that are in some sort of gooey, gluey base, plus the jar wasn’t even full! When you turn it to unscrew it, it sloshes over to one side! Soooo disappointing. Used to contain only whole, crisp eggs right to the top. A real deal then. This is no deal now except for the price. What happened?

Great addition to your take out/home sushi
My wife and I get take out sushi from our favorite place in Mechanicsburg ("Sakura) and the red and or black caviar gives any sushi some extra 'pop' of flavor. These red ones are almost the size of true "Ikura" (Salmon Roe) and taste the same. The black is 'tibivo' or '"flying firsh roe" and the taste is also fine "Ikura" has gotten quite expensive since the covid pandemic and you can put this on top or rolls to jazz up the appearance and more importantly, the taste. Give them a try if you are a sushi fan !!
