the watch was fine until it turned its self off and would not come back on

I purchased this item somewhere else , after charging I noticed a big crack down the back of the watch. It no longer charges and the company have informed me that it is physical damage and not covered under warranty. I can only think that maybe there is a fragility to the back cover for this to happen so would not purchase this model again. Maybe I was just unlucky.
