What is the difference between this product and the L -Tryptophan that was removed from store shelves years ago?

I was diagnosed with EMS in 1989. I was one of the lucky ones and fully recovered. There was no cure. The “treatment” was discontinued use of L-tryptophan, steroids and 2 yrs of PT for me. Someone said EMS was treated with L-tryptophan? Ridiculous. We were being told by physicians to double up our dosages BEFORE they knew that was the root cause. I was sent to every specialist because every system in the body was impacted. Big pharma may have upped their game on regulating their manufacturing standards. But Supplements like L-Tryptophan do not fall under big pharmaceutical. They are not regulated with the same standards. Yes, do your HW. And no, this was not part of some crazy Prozac conspiracy plan.

What's the difference with 5-HTP?

5-HTP is converted in the body from L-Trytophan (also, can be made from the seeds of a particular African plant). It can have more wide-ranging side-effects (beyond brain/mental issues), so be careful with it when taking directly. When taken with other herbs, effects can amplify, so be careful. Always check with your medical doctor before taking 5-HTP. 5-HTP gets converted to serotonin by the liver. 5-HTP is not sold over-the-counter in all countries of the world. L-Trytophan, as a naturally occurring amino acid, is commonly viewed as the safer alternative.

How big are the capsules? I bought the other brand on amazon and they are too big.I have a problem with my esophougus and it got stuck and made be sick for a day. Thanks

I have trouble swallowing pills, but there's a positive with this when it comes to ANY amino acids: They are best taken by opening the capsule into 1-2 oz of water and swishing in your mouth before swallowing. It allows them to absorb better AND work faster.

is the tryptophane from China??

According to a message I got back from NOW:"The tryptophan is produced by fermentation of non-GMO corn in China; then is granulated, encapsulated, and bottled in the USA."
