Rogue Photographic Design Rogue FlashBender 2 (Second Generation) - LARGE Soft Box Kit (Black/White)

I'm a big fan of the Rogue product line, although the products tend to be pricey. This product is part of the 2nd generation line that was being phased out, so I was able to get this modifier for a lower price than the generation 3 version.

Frankly, when I ordered this, I already had many, many light diffusion devises to use with my flash units for corporate event work, the one type of my work with which I could surely use this. And, I had a particular job in mind for this Rogue Large "softbox" on which I wanted to try it out.Well that shoot is now over, and here are my thoughts about the softbox:1) It works as advertised, something that I was frankly skeptical about.2) The light quality is about the softest and most diffused of all the on-camera flash diffusers of the same relative size that I have so-far used. It could be just a little bit better, by more completely lighting the front diffuser, if the devise could always be optimally shaped, the materials fit a little better and the closures were more effective - the main complaints I have about the box.3) Because the light I did get was so good for the size of the box, I still gave this 5 stars, but 4.5 would be a better rating.4) Specifically, the strap fitting the box to the flash head slipped quite a bit, and, because this strap being tight and immovable is the key to the box working properly - not just to attach to the flash, but to actually make the shape of the box correct - it was the major problem I had with the design; I kept having to readjust it over the course of my job - not a good condition. Also, the Velcro along the edges and at the corners of the reflector and diffusion fabrics were weak-sticking and came apart much too easily. If the inside surface of the flash head gripping strap were made of a very much more "grippy" material to keep it from slipping, and if the Velcro used on the two fabric panels were of much greater "stickiness," then this box would easily be a "perfect" 5-star product, at a decent price.6) Otherwise, it's an ingenious design that really works to give you close to the maximum quality of light you could expect to hand hold for a long event with your flash attached on-camera. To do better, you'd have to go bigger, which would be too heavy and unwieldy for practical use on-camera at a long event, or, you'd have to go off-camera, at which time a whole different world opens up to you.

A great addition to your speedlight. Very easy to use and carry.

I am working on a personal photography project and needed a good tool to help direct my speedlight light onto my subjects better. I originally bought this for the black flag that is included, but soon found myself very happy with the softbox instead. It takes a little bit to figure out how to mount it, and I could have used a spare set of hands, but once it's set up, it's easy to take off and put on to different flashes. The diffusion of light is good, and it does a good job of preventing light spill on to other parts of the image.

Just happened to run across this on prime. Had to get ! Great little flag/reflector/softbox for when you can't take a dedicated softbox and stand. Great for travel. Many times I try to bounce off anything available and fix in post, this takes up a lot of time in LR or PSCC. I can use this as an off camera flash/softbox with nice results considering the fact that I only purchased the large. The extra large would work better but, it looks kinda goofy to pop that on in a quite restaurant in Europe. Nice when it’s inconvenient to carry a softbox and a stand but , it is a bit heavy and because of that will eventually make your flash flop forward , eventually damaging the little teeth inside the flash that keeps it in place. I was hoping it was a fix for a little softened light in a tight fix but now carry a small , circular, foldable, reflector just in case (but a table napkin works too)

I bought this after using a couple of the larger XL Benders in my home studio. I do headshots part time and I love the light I get with the big ones. That said, their pretty big to use on camera for something like a wedding or party setting. That's where this one fits in. I don't know what the magic is with these in the material or coating or whatever it is they're made of, but, with a speedlite and one of these I get great, soft light, esp with the diffuser panel on it. There are a lot of pros that probably wouldn't agree, but I think you can say goodbye to large softboxes and umbrellas once you try these. They're a little pricey, but they beat all the other speedlite things I've tried; other bounce-reflectors, mag mod gear, etc. Even if all you want is great light for casual/family etc. type shooting and need to use a flash, then a FlashBender will be the best accessory to get next.

This is my 5th Rogue purchase, and 1st of the XL series. It's big! Exactly what i needed. It's an awesome product if you require a bigger more focused light source with plenty of flexibility, but still need backpackable lightweight portability. It is really too big to be used on camera, although it can be done. I'll likely be buying another one soon.As a multi speedlight user i find the Rogue product line to be excellent in all around quality and love the winning combination of flexibility and portability that they deliver. My only critique is that they are a bit pricey, especially when you start collecting them as i have, but if speedlights are your thing, they do deliver a solid bang for the buck

This is easy to put on your flash and easy to remove . You have to remove the inside reflector,or it will not Velcro correctly when you use the ‘soft box’ . So remember this ! There is some light leak at the top and bottom , but it’s minimal and doesn’t cause any malfunctioning. It’s a great way to have a portable soft box. I used it recently for a Boudior session and the images were gorgeous . I also like that you can fold it up and stick in your camera bag . I have tried a LOT of light diffusers and so far this is my fav .

By no means will this product replace a larger light modifier like an umbrella or soft box, however, given its size it provides good portable alternative to harsh light of direct flash for travel. I own two of these and will also use for small still life subjects using my Canon 600EXRT flash units.

This product is reliable when we shoot with flash and want to create softer light, easy to use

Super excited to have these (I bought two) in my kit. Use to bounce or 'bend' the light from my flash(es), as a small soft box or as a flag. Highly recommended!

Great design and very well made. Fabulous for many types of photography and easy to travel with.

As advertised. Cool product. Easily portable.
