Very thin paper, now rough too
Paper is way too thin. The old Ampad pads (owned by TOPS) with the dark blue top were great (and were an unadvertised 20lb), but they were changed a few months ago.Now Ampad pads are extremely thin paper. And TOPS pads, which I was hoping were better, have very thin paper, just slightly better than the new Ampad pads with the gray top.S.P. Richards pads are the same.It seems no one makes *gray* thick-paper pads like Ampad did just a few months ago. However, AMPAD Gold Fibre 20lb pads are as thick as, and slightly better than (tear easier), the classic excellent AMPAD pads. They are a very light pleasant yellow color that is named "ivory". Expensive to get the color though, $33 for a 12-pack. This is now my replacement for the classic off-white AMPAD pads that no longer exist.TOPS Docket Gold Writing Tablet is identical quality but white and sells for much less, $20 for a 12-pack.I don't like the glaring letters at the top of the TOPS pad (nor white paper) -- it seems to me that glaring top letters (or dark heavy lines) distract from what you have written on the paper -- what is the point of obtrusive markings like that (TOPS product designers aren't thinking about the customer but about advertising their brand in an obnoxiously distracting way).Update: they have worsened this paper _again_ and now the surface is rough and pencils do not write well on it.Although I prefer pastel and off-white colors, Amazon Basics sells decent quality white and yellow pads for less than 1/2 the cost of these overpriced pads (and forget about "Tops" brand -- they are the worst of all and don't ever tear cleanly). If you are willing to spend even more and want heavier weight beautifu paper to write on, "Ampad Gold Fibre" pads (20 weight) are fabulous. The price has doubled in the past few years (old kind of Ampad pads that were affordable and excellent are no longer sold) but there seems to be no competition for this quality paper.Otherwise, I recommend Amazon Basics pads if you can put up with pure white or moderately saturated yellow color (it's not too bright yellow).

Paper Quality Has Gone Dramatically Downhill! TOPS Prism Plus Legal Pad Paper
This item has changed completely (company had to use a different paper supplier, see below) between 5/27/16 and 11/4/15, my two most recent orders of TOPS Prism Plus 100% Recycled Legal Pad, 8-1/2 x 11-3/4 Inches, Perforated, Orchid, Legal/Wide Rule, 50 Sheets per Pad, 12 Pads per Pack (63140). Until this recent order, the paper was smooth, pleasant to write on with a ball-point pen, and a pretty pale orchid color. The paper for my recent order is a grey-ish darker ugly color that barely looks orchid. The paper feels rough, like newsprint or a paper towel, and drags more when writing on it, so writing takes more physical effort. I am very unhappy with this changed product, and will not purchase it again. I also communicated with the manufacturer about this at [email protected]. They replied within the day with full "disclosure" - really appreciated this. Unfortunately, bad news: "Last July we had to change paper suppliers for that product because the supplier went out of business. I am not sure what would be left of the old product because the change was made a while ago. I checked with the warehouse and they do not have any of the old stock left. Sorry for the change."

Wonderful, Whimsical
Bought these for my daughter, a whimsical business professional who refused to let the system crush her spirit, and these are just pink enough to be pretty without being unprofessional.

The pink paper is beautiful.
I love my pink pads! The paper is smooth and easy to write on, and the perforations at the top tear off well. I get lots of comments about having pink paper.

This product has changed - the paper quality is now terrible
Buyers beware - this product has changed from an excellent writing tablet to a very inferior paper product. Even though the item name and number are the same - different paper is now being used.I recently ordered a new bundle of these pads via Amazon. The paper now used in these pads is more of a toilet paper or newsprint consistency than finished notebook paper. Ink from my pen now bleeds badly across the paper as I write - and bleeds through to the next page in the pad. I went to the TOPS website and wrote the manufacturer two weeks ago - they have not yet responded. As the ink bleeds so badly, my fountain pens now empty quickly and it is very hard to read what has been written.Even though the price is the same ( a premium price for what used to be a wonderful writing pad) - the paper quality now being used now appears to be a low form of recycled paper. This review is for the TOPS 63160 Prism Plus Legal Rule Writing Pads Letter Size, Pastel Grey, 50 sheets/pad, 12/pk.

It looks like a grey blue
Paper must be magical. It looks like a grey blue, but once a camera is on it, it shows purple. Haven't opened it up yet to see the quality of paper. I'll let you know once I'm at work. Could go up or down from here.

Great color and paper.
I love the color and these pads are so useful for notes and making lists so that I can keep things out of my brain and on a pad I can see in front og me. Much better than ugly yellow legal size. I use my purple pens with this and love it. EAsy to read and enough room to write.
