I mean…it does what I needed
It does what I need it to do but it won’t autofocus at all. But when I switch it to manual mode it still does wonders. Although defective, I think I’ll keep it. It does what I need it to do and I prefer manual focus on this one anyways. Still will snap great shotsUpdate: they sent me a replacement and am very much pleased. Everything works just fine. Looks and seems brand new

Just enough zoom for many situations - did mountain shots off a highway in Montana - worked great!
Shopping Z mounts can be pricey - getting fairly recent refurbs a great alternative. My only disclaimer is that at near max zoom, distant focus on auto can be iffy - I think the higher f stop sometimes compromises compared to a faster aperture. But zoom lenses frequently have higher f stops anyhow, you get what you pay for. All summarized, still happy with this purchase. The pic above speaks for itself!

Very Nice Refurbished Lens
I was very nervous about buying a refurbished lens, but I set my reservations aside to get myself a new lens for a trip I will be taking in June. I immediately went to take pictures with it, and I must say I am extremely happy with this lens. It looks and feels brand new and the picture quality is impeccable. If someone had just given me this lens without any context, I wouldn't have even known it was refurbished. It looks and feels brand new. The auto focus works and the lens itself is in perfect shape. I use it with my Nikon D3100. Only time will tell with this lens, but upon opening, it is definitely a good buy.I took quite a few photos, but I will come back in a few months to update about the quality over time.

Lightweight inexpensive zoom lens for long trips
VR, Vibration Reduction, is critical. I'd suggest the new Nikon 55-200mm VR instead. But, first read the next. This non-VR , and the 18 - 55 mm lens, together are a much better choice optically than a do-everything lens like Tamron's 18 - 200 mm. The Nikon two-lens combo has none of the heinous distortion of the Tamron, also both Nikkors together would cost the same as a do-everything lens. Of course if distortion doesn't bother you and you'd rather never change lenses, then have a look at the Tamron. For half the price you can get the 70 -300 G, which is more lens. I'd probably get the 70 - 300 G instead, since I want the longer zoom range although the 70 - 300 gets soft at 300 mm.Nonetheless it's a matter of taste, I already had the Tamron 18 - 200mm and the Nikor 55-300mm VR and each of them has its moment, this non-VR 55-200mm is the perfect lens for long multiple-day hikes in which you have to carry all you stuff and the photography time it's gonna be on really good day light so the VR it's not gonna be missed and the lens is so lightweight that is not gonna be a problem for your back. I already had it for like 6 month and I'm happy with it, I bought it Factory Refurbished for $99 here on amazon and is 100% perfect, alive and kickin'
