Best-Loved Yeats: William Butler Yeats

Lovely collection of Yeats poetry
Of course Yeats' poetry is absolutely magical and this is a lovely collection of his most famous poems. My favorite is "The Song of Wandering Aengus". It's also a very pretty book and because it is small you can take it with you-- for those times when you need a little fairy magic.

Best-loved Yeats
Five stars was an easy rating. The book was fabulous, including the magnificent cover. I discovered a beautiful poem by Yeats by accident - looking at a little hand-made booklet my son made for his son. I had no idea my son enjoyed Yeats - I surprised him with this volume for Christmas. I recommend this book to anyone who has loved, lost, regretted, imagined, created, or otherwise soaked in life - the good with the bad. I wish I could have met Mr. Yeats in person, but for now, his works live after him for us all to savor.

Good but best loved? Maybe.
Long story short its a nice collection. The binding is quality and beautiful. I have but one complaint and it is how can you call this the best loved Yeats when it is glaringly missing Leda and the Swan? Easily one of his best written after his Nobel prize. This is the only reason it gets 4/5 stars. Everything about this book is great and it has most of Yeats best, but I do question the selection and whether or not it is really the best loved, or instead the editors favorites, for there is a difference.

A little Gem.
This is a beautiful book and makes a great gift. I have given it to several friends. I am a great lover of Yeats's poetry and find that some people are intimidated by his reputation. Therefore, this little book is a great introduction to his work.

A good introduction
This is a nicely produced hardback edition on decent quality paper and contains a fair selection of some of Yeats' most popular works. It's very much a sampler and almost inevitably won't include some poems that you might think it should. Nonetheless it makes a great little gift for those unfamiliar with his work. It's described as an illustrated edition and true enough it has a few line drawings and some photos but its not exactly lavishly illustrated, so don't hold out your hopes there. Still, it is about the words after all. If he'd wanted pictures he'd have written graphic novels not poems.
