Great Book to get back into bass
My son had given up standing bass a long time ago (10 years). He tried to forget it. Then I bought him a bass guitar for his birthday. He tried to tell me he forgot how to read music so I bought him the Daily Grooves for Bass book & CD. Thanks to this book and CD he got his "groove" back. He's addicted again. It's a great book to ease back into bass if you've let it go for awhile.

Terry Wolstencroft ~ A Good Guitar Book and CD
This book gives the guitarist and budding musician a wonderful musical approach with quite a few modern compositions. It is useful, easy to use and the CD is a great companion that offers audible affirmation of what the musician should be playing.

Great resource, but with a few reservations
I am just starting on it, but I've listened to many of the tracks across the year. I think the grooves are great, and they cover a lot of ground. But I do have a couple complaints.1) The recording level is very low, so even with my PC at max volume the audio is still too low. I'm about to find a program which will do a batch volume normalization on all the tracks it is so bad.2) He plays a 5 string fretless bass. Some of the licks are a LOT easier on 5 string than on 4 string because on 4 string the licks require large, position changes. It adds to the challenge on some days, for sure.3) His tone and technique are not very crisp, often resulting in a muddy result, especially on week 31 ("blistering fast")Despite the reservations, 4 stars. Creative grooves and good reading practice.

Took My Reading to a Higher Level
I can't say much more than the title of my review. This is a great and simple way to improve your reading, your groove vocabulary, and much more. Daily Grooves is a must have for the serious bassist.

No Beginner's book!
Just got this book and wow, a great new lick everyday for a year! I'm a guitar player learning the bass guitar and it's proving to be way tougher than I thought. I want to learn to think like a bass player, not play bass like a guitar player! WARNING! This book is NOT for a raw beginner. It will be a very tough go for you. Even if your a guitar player wanting to learn bass, this still will be extremely challenging.... but oh so worth it!This book will give you so many good ideas. Just a couple of measures each day which keeps it simple (sort of, if ya got the chops, if not, you'll get them with this, hopefully!). You get a lot of odd time signatures, not all at once of course. There are some stange time signatures used I don't think most will ever play, but they are very interesting and very short. Patrick Pfeiffer is trualy a bass master and I'm very glad he made this book.If you wanna get sounding like Jaco, I'm certain this book will get you there. It's a very inspirational book, and how often do you see that in the guitar-book world? You can learn to read the bass cleff with this (it's not that tough to figure it out slowly), but if yer like me, the pdf file that has the tabs for all of the licks will prove useful. Now if I can just figure out a good way to organize those 350 mp3's of all the licks here, I'll be all set!

Decent, but not great.
The recordings vary from decent, to downright bad. Some have all kinds of hiss, and some of the playing examples are very sloppy. Its really a shame because the book had so much potential. The book itself seems decent enough and I am working through it. Some of the grooves are fun but many are simply small variations on a theme. I believe that this book would be great for beginners but for anybody beyond that who might be looking for inspiration would be better served looking elsewhere.
