I've done it wrong for 40 years
I've been a propane or charcoal guy all my life and I would have sworn that I would never, ever use an electric grill. But, I needed something portable. First I bought a Smoke Hollow portable gas grill. Two temperatures - either ambient or 600 degrees. Nothing in between. Three weeks into ownership and the regulator broke. They were to send me a new one, but that was 3 weeks ago. No sign of a new regulator. So, I decided to try an electric. I can't stand mediocrity and the Kenyon was getting rave reviews. So, okay, spend 3-4 times what I intended, but what the hey. Let's give it a shot. Arrived today literally ready to plug in and use. Nothing to put together and nothing to lose. Cleaned the griddle off and put a hamburger on for dinner. All I can say is "darn!". It cooked it evenly throughout and put a nice char on the outside. I just made the best hamburger that I've ever made. Cleanup was stupid simple with the grill hot. I really can't wait to try it on chicken next. And, steak. My love of propane for ease and simplicity has been replaced by a top quality electric grill from Kenyon.

Fabulous Kenyon Pioneer Electric Grill!
The Kenyon Pioneer Stainless Steel Grill preheats in less than 10 minutes, maintains temperature after lid is opened, cooks beautifully, doesn't take up much room, and is easy to clean. Caveat: Buy the aluminum drip pans from Ocean State Job Lot or your local dollar store at 90 cents each (on line they are 10 for $46!!!). We had previously purchased a Char-Broil electric grill that took 45 minutes to preheat and the minute we opened the lid, the temperature plummeted (although the steaks did cook okay). I highly recommend the Kenyon Pioneer Electric Grill - it's worth the extra money! We live in a townhouse community and due to State Fire Protection laws, charcoal and propane grills are not allowed to be used (in the case of propane, or stored) within 10 feet of the structure, including the deck. Electric grills can be operated on decks so the Kenyon has been a nice alternative to running up and down stairs 10 feet into the yard (and paying for an expensive grill pad to be installed).

The hype is real! Best electric grill!
It is pricier than other electric grills, but worth every penny. I cannot have open flame grills on balcony, so I did my research and although Webber and George Foreman came up frequently, Kenyon had consistent great reviews. It comes assembled and ready to use, packaging was far superior than other appliances i have bought. The thing i like the most is the easy cleaning, instead of a messy metal tray for drippings, you have an aluminum foil pan than you can just discard. To replace buy more from Kenyon or a cheaper option is Handi-foil 13 1/2 in. x 9 5/8 in. lasagna pan which works just as good as original. To clean, wipe the grill with a wet paper towel when it is still hot, cleans very easily. Any aluminum care product will work great to keep exterior shiny. I have grilled vegetables and all kinds of beef and chicken cut with great results. Couldn’t recommend this grill more.

Great Grill, But the Grates are Teflon Coated
I like this grill and it’s probably the best electric grill on the market. It heats up quickly. It’s simple. And it imparts great grill marks on your food. The one thing I didn’t like is the grates are not that easy to clean and they’re made of Teflon, which has health risks and should be banned. I’m disappointed that they didn’t use a ceramic coating on the grates. Some of the Teflon coating has already come off.

I'm blown away.
I bought this grill to save money in a home I'm currently building vs buying a natural gas grill w/ hood vent. I had never heard of Kenyon at the time, but decided to give it a try, despite the cost. $1000 vs $6000+ is a no-brainer, if it works... Since this grill does not need ventilation & is UL listed for both indoor & outdoor use, it's perfect for my needs. The drip tray doubles as a steamer. You must fill it with water or you will get smoke while grilling. This is not a downside in the least. Everything I've cooked, from hamburgers to pork to chicken has been cooked through quickly. None of the meat burns, nor is it dry. Everything is juicy & flavorful. It also cooks much faster than my Kamado Acorn grill, which is the best I've ever used. That's saying a lot. I've cooked about 12 chicken cutlets at once & each were cooked evenly & finished at the same time. The uniformity of heat on this grill is amazing. The unit itself is fairly light for the size. All surfaces are either non-stick or stainless steel. The steel obviously wipes clean very easily. It's the grill that amazes me. I can wipe off any amount of drippings quickly. Unlike a BBQ pit, I don't have to scrape anything with a wire brush; just grab a paper towel right after you finish cooking & most of the dripings come off immediately. The rest can be removed with a wet paper towel. I believe it's dish washer safe. The handles are sturdy & easy go grasp. The touch sensitive on/off & lo/hi buttons function much like HDTV or smart phone buttons. They are very easy to use. The display is incredibly easy to read & the booklet explains how hot to cook types of meat & veggies. I found I could lower the temperature a bit & the food still cooked quickly. Despite being 120v, it provides more than enough heat for cooking any type of meat. I have always prefered to BBQ with coal or wood in the past. Otherwise, I would typicaly cook on a cooktop with natural gas. I hate cooking on electric. This is the first time I have used anything electric that cooked as well, if not better, than anything using a flame as a heat source. I would give this grill 6 out of 5 if I could. Kenyon's claims are not exaggerated in any way. This grill does live up to the hype. I would buy it again in a heart beat if I had to choose a grill again.

Fantastic product but hard to find correct sized drip pans
Almost two years later, I stand by my original review. We've found that cooking oily fish - sablefish, salmon - doesn't require oil, but grouper and other leaner fish need a bit of help. The only thing I'd add is not to bother buying the cover made by Kenyon - it's way too tight, gets moldy, and is unusable after a year even with constant care. We bought one from Cuisinart after throwing the Kenyon cover away, and it fits just fine. This is a fantastic product. Unbelievably fantastic. We use it on an upstairs screened in porch with a very low ceiling, and even with a slightly fatty food (hot dogs, pork chops), a simple ceiling fan on low takes care of the minimal smoke. Worth every cent. A few tips - yes, definitely let it heat up all the way, for at least 7 minutes. It makes an enormous difference. DO put a little bit of oil on things like fish; no matter how "non stick" it may be, it's not completely non-stick and the oil helps to char things nicely as well. Cooking on the highest setting, or at least pre-heating there, works best. We used the drip pan that came with it for weeks, but just had to order more from Kenyon (on sale, $25 for 10, free delivery). Be aware that the customer who thought "Weber 6416 Large Aluminum Drip Pans, 10-Pack" would work was wrong - the pans are way too small. All in all a great product, and surprisingly good at making char marks, too!

Awesome grilling in summer (but not in winter)
I use this on an outdoor terrace in NYC where a gas BBQ is not permitted. It has been life changing and grilled food is almost indistinguishable from that of a gas grill. The metal grill itself pops easily into the dishwasher for hands free cleaning (sometimes a quick paper towel rub is necessary first to remove larger bits). I’ve attempted to grill a couple of times in NYC winters (temps below 35 degrees) and found the grill surface struggles to maintain the heat (the lid doesn’t even get warm to the touch when closed during pre-heating on the highest setting). It was challenging to cook in these temperatures and I’ve had to finish burgers and sausages in the oven. I gave it 5 stars because it really is amazing and simple to use. It might be unreasonable (or uncommon) to expect year round use for an electric grill. For normal summer BBQ use the machine is flawless.
