Kristy's Great Idea: A Graphic Novel (The Baby-Sitters Club #1) (The Baby-Sitters Club Graphix) Review: Review by a Very Excited Kid 😄 - I LOVE this book!!! 📚💖 The Baby-sitters Club is SO COOL and I wish I could be in it! Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey are all really different but they’re best friends and work together to babysit all kinds of kids. Sometimes it’s funny (like when there’s a HUGE dog!!) and sometimes it’s a little scary but they always figure it out together. My favorite part is the pictures Review: Excellent graphic novel! Stays true to the original series. - I loved the Baby-Sitters Club books as an 8 year old, and I am so glad to see them being published as graphic novels. I purchase two copies of this- one for myself and one for my 11 year old niece. We are starting to get into graphic novels as a way to help her dyslexic brother associate words and pictures. She was really excited to see a graphic novel for girls. I should clarify that these books are not *just* for girls- but they certainly appeal to my niece more than X-Men or traditional comics. Also, I should clarify that this book is not a comic- it is a graphic novel. This means that it is a genuine novel that has been heavily illustrated. Thus, if you consider comics low-brow literature, you may still want to consider a graphic novel. Essentially, the entire original story is here, with a lot of original dialogue. The storyline is the same and the characters are the same. There are a lot of graphic novels that I do not care for, because of the illustrations. This novel was illustrated by the same woman who illustrated "Smile." The pictures and text are very clear. Some people are complaining the story lines are not appropriate for younger elementary. I think when these were published they were aimed at Middle School aged kids- since the kids in the books are all in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. I remember reading the original ones as a 9 year old, and it was my first introduction to a lot of new concepts, like divorce, deafness, and diabetes- but to be fair, these are all things I hear my elementary students at school talk to their friends about. Ann Martin has always been really good about writing about tough themes for kids in a way that makes them non-threatening. I would really recommend this novel to any girl who struggles with reading, or any girl who finds reading boring. It is a series, with #2 already published, and #3 and #4 on the way. If your girl happens to like the graphic novels, you can always try the original, non-illustrated series as well. if you have a girl that REALLY is getting into graphic novels, we also liked the Phoebe and the Unicorn series as well.

Great book to merge into chapter book reading
The difference between picture books and straight up word only chapter books is stark. The comic book style in this series is such a great way to bridge the gap and get your kid into reading chapter books. The content is a little mature. It talks about the problems going on in the girls lives like dealing with parents divorce and dealing with health issues. You may or may not find those topics inappropriate for your child’s age.

Great book!
This book was a great fit for my upper elementary-aged daughter. She loved the engaging story and the graphic novel illustrations, which really captured her interest. She's already looking forward to reading more in the series!

So disappointed! Ordered this for my daughter and didn't read the fine print Graphic novel 🙄 basically all pictures with very little writing. So beware if you actually want a reading book it's not this one.
