My wife and I have been avid postage-stamp gardeners for the past 35 years. Nearly every weekend you can find us tending our vast array of vegetables and herbs. The past few years, though, age has crept up on us and many body parts on both of us have begun to complain, mostly knees and lower back. My wife has considerable difficulty standing up from a kneeling position, even when I lend her a hand up.I had to do something.Watching her struggle in pain led me to think that there has got to be a better way, something that will make gardening pleasurable again. I did a considerable amount of research on various pads, scooters, kneelers and others in an effort to find the best solution.Simple foam pads that you toss on to the ground were right out. While compact and portable, they offered no leverage when you attempted to rise from a kneeling position.Garden Scooters on were right out. Postage stamp gardening does not leave much room for a wheeled device (plus we have pavers for when we want to collect herbs or vegetables and it is muddy), and having only a sitting option meant lots of bending over at the waist...too much pain.Garden kneelers seemed to be the direction to go. Given the fact that they were flippable from kneeler to seat meant that my wife could take a breather right there in the garden without having to navigate to the patio.I researched further into the kneeler option. Too many, it seemed, were flimsy. The thin tubing, narrow seats, or inferior coatings all made the garden kneeler option less attractive. My wife and I are no longer the svelte go-getters we once were, and age (and homebrew) has packed on a few pounds, so we needed something that was sturdy.Then I ran across the Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler from Gardener's Supply. Compared to all of the other kneeler options, this product appeared to be the sturdiest bargain. After reading every review I decided that this would be my choice. I pressed the "Add to Cart" button and awaited its arrival.The Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler arrived in five business days. The packaging was double wall corrugated cardboard (there was no fancy full color retail-type box). The packaging was undamaged and well sealed. The box was surprisingly heavy. Opening the package revealed the kneeler wrapped in plastic.I removed the kneeler from the box and plastic and carefully inspected it. The Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler is respectably beefy. The metal tubular framework is heavy and thick. It is coated in a nice thick layer of green enamel, which if properly cared for, should keep rust away for a good long time. The two legs unfold with some effort and the locking mechanisms securely snap into place.I am still impressed by this product. It is hefty, but not so heavy that my wife cannot tote it with her into the garden every day. Flipped into the seating position, the seat is a fairly dense foam that gives a little bit, but not too much, i.e., it gives nice support. Considering the fact that when in the garden it will sink a bit into the dirt when sat upon, the height is perfect for my wife's leg length. Flipped into the kneeling position, the foam pad for kneeling is fairly squishy, but not so much that you feel as if you are going to go through it. While not as squishy as some types of foam kneeling pads, it still is a far cry better on the knees than the ground. The legs allow my wife sufficient leverage to rise to a standing position without any other help.The locking mechanism for the folding legs operates easily, and the Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler folds nice and compact for storage in our redwood potting shed.One observation I had is that the user needs to be cognizant of how they use the legs for leverage. If you push outward as you push downward you are placing considerable stress on welds and the locking mechanism. This seems to be an inherent factor in all garden kneelers of this design. Increase the life expectancy of the product by only pushing downward when you are rising from a kneeling position.Both I and my wife are very pleased with Gardener's Supply Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler. It is saving both of us from considerable pain, and allowing us to fully enjoy our garden. I will be purchasing another Wide-Seat Garden Kneeler for myself.Thank you Gardener's Supply.UPDATE December 2015: After over nine months of use nearly every weekend, both of my Wide-Seat Garden Kneelers show little wear, and are holding up beautifully. The enamel is still holding up quite nicely, especially where it is in contact with the dirt and rocks. The padded seat/kneeler is still as comfy as ever. I highly recommend this product, and I would give it 10 stars.

In my occupation, if I'm not driving, I am kneeling, squatting, or low sitting. I used to rely on a combination of a kneeling pad an a hunting stool. This is now my all in one, very sturdy solution! When kneeling there is enough ground clearance to allow you to kneel with toes pointing down rather than kneeling on your flattened feet which causes your feet to fall asleep. The handle bars to assist getting up from a kneeling stance are a huge back saver. The attachable tool holders are a game changer when splicing cable. My union stew is so impressed with the product that he is petitioning the Company to add it to our tool catalog as an ergonomic NEED. (I'm sure for these reasons it's great for gardening as well)I will be spraying the legs with a flex seal like, rubberized product. When used on concrete the paint will scratch away and you will get some rusting.

It is sturdy. Not too heavy or bulky. Looks good, but more importantly, does the job. Five stars.

Loved that it is reversible so you can sit or kneel. It is also very sturdy, making it much easier to get up.

This kneeler/seat is quite sturdy. It serves it place in the garden and accidentally it worked as overflow seating on the porch. It easily opens and changes positions.

I bought this item for cleaning my floors by hand. I just received this item, so have not had a chance to use it much. I chose this particular item because of reviews and I wanted something that seemed sturdy. I was very pleased with the delivery part. It did not need any assembly which was also great. You just fold the "handles" in or out for use and that is quite manageable. It fits behind a door. I "tried" it out. It was very easy for me to get up and down.. I don't have strength in certain leg muscles...so this is a blessing. It really saves the knees. The padding is sufficient. The only thing that I didn't think about was that when you kneel on the pad, you are 3-4 inches above the floor, which means I have to lean over more to reach the floor with my hands. I think this might be ok though. I am an older senior, and I'm thrilled to find an item that will help keep me more independent.

Its design makes for great space saving storage. It work both as a kneeler and portable stool. Only 3 stars because both pads came off do to a poor glue choice. I store this in the shed where the temp gets pretty warm and the glue that was used was not up to the task. I will need to look for a different solution for the padding.
