Q: My thumb measures slightly over 1 " Would L be to big

My thumb is almost 2 inches long and about 2.5 inches in diameter. I have pretty small (but fat) thumbs for an adult. I use a medium. They tend to run rather small so the medium is slightly tight but not uncomfortably so. I use these all the time and love them.

Q: What size would I get for an alto clarinet?

The Nubs sizing is determined by measuring the width of your thumb knuckle and comparing it to the size chart. If you are on the line between sizes please size up. The Nubs work best for all woodwind instruments.

I found the measuring guide NUBS provides on the Amazon listing to be accurate. So, if your thumb is just over an inch that means it is over 25mm. According to the measuring guide you would want a size large. I would go with the large.
