Great deer knife
Light and very sharp. Easy to use for everything from field dressing to skinning to caping. Feels great in hand.

I've always loved my KOA knives since the first set and this is no exception and has certain ideal uses
KOA knives are a great value. I'm a hunter and I use my KOAs for tasks in camp, woods and on game. Hair is particularly dulling for a blade and the KOA have great results over the long term for them doing the job. This alpha wolf is a great size and the finger indents make it really grippy. The shape of the blade is great for skinning and the blade is fairly thin being able to cut through nicely. I would not use this for heavy chores like shelter construction that should have a thicker blade to withstand the abuse unless it was the only choice. In general, I can't stress that you need to take a role in knife . storing them outside of the scabbard to prevent discoloration/rust and sharpening with a constant angle sharpener with correctly polishing the edge. I use a clamp on angle guide with multiple stones and my friends think they have sharp blades until they try mine. These are both critical steps to owning any knives.

This knife is perfect
Perfection that fits my hand and has an edge I have never seen on a knife before. SV30 holds an edge a long, long time -- 3 deer and I still didn't need to re-sharpen. Very controllable, grip stays stable in the hand when wet or bloody, and the sheath is very nice. Don't use a regular stone with this one! Concave edge, so get a leather strop and some green and white stropping compound to keep the edge right. My favorite knife for field dressing, skinning, even butchering (though I do use a more flexible blade for boning). Can you say SHARP, as in unbelievably sharp, out of the box? I love it.

Wow what a blade!
What a perfect knife for fish and game. Looks good, feels good, performs excellent! Steel quality is superb, grip is immaculate, and the sheath seats nicely on a belt or pack strap. The blade is thin and sleek allowing for precise cutting. I recommend this knife to anyone looking for the perfect harvesting knife. I would love to try more products from this company in the near future!

With the S30v metal the knife should last forever. ...
With the S30v metal the knife should last forever. It is well built and very sharp. I gave it to my daughter as a graduation gift. Her "handle" is alpha-wolf. (Her degree is in biology and hopes to study wolves)The 18 degree blade edge is razor sharp.

Great Knife but...
The Good:The knife is incredibly sharp and seems to be built for the long run. Semi-flexible blade which I like. The sheath is of good quality leather but does not hold the knife in very well.Update: I just noticed I got a couple negative reviews. I think I know why. I sounded contradictive. Yes, the blade came with a chip, however I can tell the quality of the steel is superb. I happen to know that the chip came from sharpening. So I believe the seller sold me a B class unit or else the MFG had 1 slip through quality control. The blade is superb. The chip is not an indication of a poor blade in this case. Hope that makes sense. The Bad:The little band at the top of the sheath has velcro inside. This is what keeps the knife in the sheath. However, if you dont pull really tight on the velcro while closing it you'll probably lose your knife or worse yet, it gets loose and cuts you.The Ugly:My knife arrived with a very small but noticeable chip near the center of the cutting edge. The chip was clearly made during the sharpening process and has nothing to do with the actual quality of the steel and blade. The blade is built for the long run, however this particular knife should NOT have passed inspection.

Excellent knife, blade a bit short.
Used this knife to dress and then skin and debone a whitetail this year. It was sharp and cut very well. I would say that the cutting length is too short to be a good deboner. It's short length created a tendency to cut short. It did not rust yet. The handle finger groves served well to grip the knife when wet with blood. The closure loop on the sheath had to be closed very tight and carefully to truly serve to restrain the blade from removal/falling out. I would recommend fine tuning that piece of the sheath to make closing it for the purpose of restraining it from removal more facile and foolproof.I would recommend this knife to a friend with the caveat that it's cutting length is only about three inches and should be lengthened to four. The finger groove on the blade would be fine to keep as well so overall blade length on this knife should be five inches, not four. There are plenty of kids' jack-knives with three inch cutting blades. This is supposed to be a top end hunting knife. Make the cutting edge longer. Well worth the money.

Great White Tail Skinning Knife!
One question I had that no one answered, how many deer will it clean before it gets dull. The answer I had was 3. I also ordered the KOA sharpener that has the proper blade angel for sharpening this knife. A couple of swipes through it and then a little slicing on the diamond sharpener and whammo it was as good as new. When I say dull I don't mean flat out dull after 3 deer. It just began dulling and wasn't as sharp as I would like after 3 deer. All in all, great knife. The guides that I was with said it was an excellent knife. However, if you do not want to spend this money try a Morakniv. They are cheaper than Gerber and buck but in my opinion they are awesome knives also. I bought one along with this KOA knife.
