The Art of Diablo

Mostly Diablo 3
Do you like Diablo? Then you might also like this book. The book itself is definitely a 10/10, absolutely wonderful and good looking pictures/art throughout the book.but..If you plan on buying this art book and expect to see half a book of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 content, then you're not going to get that. This book is almost purely Diablo 3, with some pages of Diablo 4. Most stuff about Diablo 3 characters, bosses, mobs, story etc. Few hints to others aswell. So if you like Diablo 3, then its definitely a book worth diving into :)

Die-hard Diablo 3 fans will want this
"With Diablo and Diablo II, there was no real art done for that game, in terms of concepts. The main artwork that everyone associates with it was from the manual..."I've had a look at said manuals (easily searchable online), and quite a few pieces of artwork was left out of this heavy tome. Most of the art is from Diablo 3 as mentioned in the Amazon.com reviews, perhaps due Blizzard being unable to source the original resolution for image quality. It would have been nice to have everything collected together. In any case, I only started playing Diablo 3 a few months ago without having played the originals and have no nostalgic attachment to the prequels. Many older fans dislike D3 due to "dumbing down" and "mainstreaming" of the series, and by extension will probably dislike this artbook in association (as an old fart who enjoyed Snake and Tetris as a child, simple mechanics don't bother me one bit. I love D3).With that out the way, the book includes a good amount of text and plenty of full or double spreads of artwork. Pages are thick and glossy as expected. Topics include heroes, villains, NPCs, armour, weapons, environments and some iconic monsters (like the Skeleton King or Butcher etc). However, due to D3 having semi-randomly generated monsters (and dungeons!) a complete bestiary isn't really possible. For that, you would do better to check out the D3 official guide. Finally, there's a short section at the back with some key concept art for D4. I don't hate the colour palette of D3 but the whole "bringing back the darkness" theme for the new game is pretty exciting stuff. This Igor Sidorenko fellow does a fabulous job with his mythological renaissance art style.Overall a great book, but I have knocked off one star as the collection is not complete. In addition to the lack of old manual artwork as mentioned above, some heroes have more printed material than others. For example, Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk and Witch Doctor have 8 full pages dedicated to them, whereas Crusader and Necromancer (my favourite class) have only 4. I have seen more (promotional art) online so I know they have the content - they just decided not to print them for some reason. In any case I was pretty miffed with the discrepancy. I guess that's how other fans feel about the old art.Verdict: If you are a D3 fan and collect art books, you need to get this. Just be aware that it's not as all encompassing as the title suggests.
