Bigger than expected, overall couldn’t be happier.
I’ll start out with the only con I have- sizing: I went through 4 pairs to get the right size. I wear a 6.5-7 and tend to go to 7 in running/hiking shoes for a little more room. I ordered these in both 6.5 and 7 and both were huge. Returned and ordered 5.5 and 5 and ended up keeping the 5.5. Just something to note when ordering. On to the shoes themselves!I ordered these on the recommendation (insistence) of my Orthopedist after tearing a ligament in my ankle and fracturing several bones. After 16 weeks in an airboot and a (forced) very sedentary lifestyle, I was able to avoid surgery and I wanted to return to hiking. She insisted I only do so if I wear these. I completed my first hike post injury this weekend (Granted it was only 5 miles and nothing too extreme) But these boots were the key. As others have mentioned, there was zero break in time. Not one rub or any area of discomfort. The locking lace holder at the ankle was key as well. Great boots, great fit (once you figure out sizing) and they look good as well!

I love these.
I have wide feet like a duck so I made sure to try these boots in particular out after reading reviews. The toe room and sheer comfort of these boots soothes my soul (and my sole). Used several times over the past few months hiking in sandy/rainy/muddy etc climates, once in 5-8 inches of muddy water and nothing got through to my feet. Only thing is the laces do slip sometimes. Just change them out if it really bothers you. Otherwise this is a fantastic boot.

Effective, but very painful
Purchased these for some hikes near and in Zion National Park. Went to Bryce Canyon, these shoes trekked through snow and mud effortlessly while keeping my feet dry. Mud was easy to clean off. Wearing them short-term was fine. Wearing them long-term personally caused me great pain in my right foot. I wore them through Angel's Landing, they provided excellent traction on the rocks, but experienced the same pain in the right foot after long term. Upon examination it may be some sort of internal safety strap causing the pain, but it cannot be adjusted. I was disappointed in m my first Salomon's purchase. My entire family buys this brand, and they were happy with their purchases. Looks like I just got unlucky?

Best - No question about it.
I can't think or find anything bad to say about these boots. They feel great, absolutely waterproof with gore-tex, extremely light weight and possibly the most comfortable pair of Footwear I have, period. I wear 10 1/2 and they fit perfect. Addition - I just got back from a 3 day hunting trip walking through swamp land, muck, mud & rough terrain - Absolutely no water at all got in my boots. 100 % dry inside. I call them my clouds!!

Requires a break-in period
For all the larger men in the room, or average, I’m 6’ and 230 with a 13w. Out of the box I wore these on a 12 hour shift in ER and getting out of them was Heaven. Then I wore them another 12 hours just day to day, and then another. After 36 hours of wear they became comfortable. This is a rugged boot designed for hiking. After a low round hike in the swamps it stands up well.Keeps out water.I will say that there are more inexpensive boots that do the same.

Will be returned.
I like the quality of the boot however there are some things that need addressed. First, the toe “pops” with each step I take and it’s very annoying to say the least. I tried mink oil, wax and other leather softening products but they BOTH still pop as I walk. Second the Gortex is stitched inside the boot and they put a seam right where my heel sits and it rubs my foot creating a hot spot and eventually will cause blisters. I will be returning these and buying the tried and true Keens.

Looks nice but not a fit for me
They appear that they would be durable, however the boots are so uncomfortable I cannot tolerate wearing them. I’ve tried three times, but it’s just a no go... stuck with an expensive pair of boots I can’t return and can’t wear :(

Great Boots
It’s taken a while to get to the point where I have gotten enough use out of these to write a review. First of all, I don’t have much to compare these to. Until now I have been wearing Saucony trail shoes and found them really good for what I was using them for: mainly walking trails but no serious hiking. I have started hiking more demanding trails and have found the Salomon Quest boots to be more than equal to anything I can do with them. I thought they would need breaking in- not at all. Right out of the box they were more comfortable and supportive than anything I had ever worn. The first real test was a 9 mile hike on some pretty demanding trails in which they performed flawlessly. This was only the second time I had worn them, so that’s saying something. Okay, they are a bit pricey but not excessively and you certainly get your money’s worth. I can recommend them highly. Oh, on top of everything else, they are incredibly lightweight.

NOT WATERPROOF!!!
Unless you live somewhere it never rains don't buy these boots! The mesh area on the uppers lets in water like a sieve so if you pass through wet grass, bogland or a shallow puddle you'll have wet feet in seconds. Useless...unless you like having wet socks all day whilst you're hiking. Too late to return them. Big waste of money! I never had hiking boots before that allowed water to flow in like sandals. Garbage!

Not the best Salomon's I've had
The Quest Prime's are very well made as you would expect from Salomon and present themselves as a durable high quality boot. I've had a few different pairs of Salomon hiking boots and shoes over the years but these stand out as a little different. I find the soles unusually stiff and not conducive to maintaining a good walking speed. That abnormal stiffness also gives the boot a tendency to try and pull away from my heel when walking. They are certainly much stiffer than the full leg height Quest 3D GTX's they were bought to replace. I do find the sole to have good reliable grip though. The laces need to be double bow tied or they will come undone but that's not unique to the Quest Prime's in the Salomon range. In Salomon's sizing I would ideally choose 12 but not all their shoes/boots come in that size, so in this case I went up to 12.5. There seems to be a disproportionately large increase in the inner volume of the boot when going up to 12.5 from 12. These boots as a 12.5 are cavernous inside and, for me at least, require a volume reducing insole.

Excellent for walking on uneven ground.
Only one thing the matter with these boots, they are third pair I have had from Salomon, They are expensive but look around all the other makes are in the same ball park, you pay for what you get and in my opinion if your going to spend that kind of money, buy these

Great boot
I bought these as a replacement for some Berghaus GTX Trek Explorer's. No problems with breaking them in, which took very little time, but during lockdown we couldn't walk too far. I used them most days, walking my dog on the edge of Dartmoor. Unfortunately it had also been mostly dry weather! Finally, got to walk further on the moors, and after some wet weather. No problems with water proofing; they kept my feet nice and dry as we went over a boggy area. Nice and lightweight boot (as were the Berghaus). They do seem a bit wider than my old boots, which is great as I have a small bunion on one foot and these boots cause that no problems at all.So, as others have mentioned - yes the laces occasionally seem to work loose. A double knot should sort that out. Yes, they can be a bit tight getting on, although that seems easier for me now, but getting them off is still a bit of a wriggle! Despite that, they are comfortable once on. How long they will last I have no idea yet.

Left ankle pain
I wore them for the first time for a local ramble and suffered major ankle pain, but the left side only. The boots are not mirror images and the top cleats point in different directions on the L and R boots.I reckon the team making the left hand boot is not as skilled. They look great, but for me, too painful to wear. Other folk have had more success, so don't let me put you off trying them
