Get What You Pay For
The Red Light that displays on your target area and helps with focus in low light (hence needing the speed light) is not centered with the camera; you can physically see the alignment is off. This makes it VERY hard to get correct focus in low light situations where the light is needed. Overall the flash works great, but the quality of all the features aren't there...but I guess you get what you pay for.I was contacted by Aperlite, who was very helpful with this situation. They stated this is a KNOWN ISSUE with some units and offered me a small refund to compensate me for the issues. While a replacement of this item in the correct condition would have been preferred, they did not ignore the issue.

Very nice speed light for Nikon.
Works very well in ttl mode. Powerful and fast recovery. It has one design flaw though. The shoe on my flash was installed "crooked". This causes the AF illuminator to be misaligned which means no focus in low light. Fortunately you can fix this. You'll need a very small Phillips screwdriver. Remove the four black screws securing the shoe assembly and withdraw it from the bottom of the flash. Unplug the connector. Inside the shoe assembly are four silver screws. Loosen but don't remove them. You can now realign the shoe. It's very easy to do. Problem solved. Great speed light!

An excellent well built and performing flash
I compared the Aperlite YH-500N with the Yongnuo YN560 III, a LumiPro 160, and an SB-600. In all cases the SB-600 put out more light than the other flashes. The LumiPro 160 appeared to give a good exposure but its color balance was off. In all cases it was quite warm. This leaves us with the Aperlite and the Yongnuo flashes. The Aperlite appeared to give out just a bit more light than than the Yongnuo in all cases except for 1/64 and 1/28 power where the Yongnuo was brighter. The Aperlite YH-500N was delivered in excellent shape and packing. The quality appears to be just as good as the SB-600. It supports on camera TTL, S1, and S2. It also has a strob setting that worked great. I really like the flash.

Alot Cheaper Than Nikon Flashes
This flash works great with my Nikon dslrs. Alot cheaper than the Nikon flash units. The build quality is not bad but I don't use flash all that often and I also do not abuse my equipment. Hopefully it will last. I use the TTL function most of the time with bounce and am amazed how accurate it is.

Flash abulous
I heard good things about this flash and decided to try. I was not disappointed. I don't use a flash very often but this one is so easy to use it's ridiculous. And in spite of the instruction book that comes with it which is not written by anyone who speaks English as their native tongue. If you don't need a Nikon TTL flash I recommend this highly.

I bought this after watching the SnapChick's review of the Appetite YH-700N on her YouTube channel. This earlier model didn't appear to be much more different and it was $30 cheaper. I've been using it for about a week and it has performed very well so far. This third-party unit is comparable to any of the Nikon speedlight at a fraction of the price.

Worked great. Until it decided to die in the middle of a shoot. They sent me a replacement ASAP which was great, now I'm just waiting to see how the new one goes.

This flash pairs up nicely with my Nikon D7200 and has some nice features. Seems to cycle very fast. My only complaint was the instructions were not very clear or complete. I think they lost some meaning in the translation. But otherwise, I've been able to work through these shortcomings. Good value product.
