Following installation instructions makes for a great gate and great experience - sturdy and safe
I had no problem installing this gate nor did I experience the "faulty gap" issues so many have where the gate would latch to the supports. Its actually supposed to come like that and warns you this does not make the gate faulty but is necessary for proper insulation and when gate is properly installed the gap disappears. We needed a gate that would spam 56 inches to keep a large new puppy out of the hallway where the kids rooms were to stop him from carrying off their toys as his. We ordered the gate and fitted it in place picking the extensions need to fit the 56" span. Once we knew where the pressure rings would go we used the drywall installation instructions to mount the holders in the wall for extra sturdiness. I think we could have simply used the adhesive attachments but puppy will grow to over 100 pounds so we wanted the extra hold (hopefully before then he will learn what toys are his and that he cannot help himself to others toys). This is where its important to note: until your gate is fully installed and you tighten it in for the final installation you will have a gap where the door would normally latch and the door appears off center. Once fully installed and mounted properly and tightened into place you will see, as you tighten the gate at the wall, the gap slowly goes away and door then is on center, and teh latch will work correctly. Every gate will come with that gab, which allows for the correct pressure installation, so seeing a gab and sending the gate back for a replacement is going to get you a gate with the same gap. This gate, installed as directed, is the sturdiest gate I have ever purchased, especially one that has to span such a width. Its also well made and looks very nice with the wood and metal, can actually look more like furniture than a barrier. I definitely would recommend this as a gate that would be safely used at the top of the stairs to prevent falls, for adults as well as children. Its also tall enough that its not going to be jumped over even by a very large dog (horse could probbaly do it through) unless its was in a hallway or area where the animal had 100 yards to run before leaping over. Even my cat, wise in the way of baby and pet gates, found that vaulting over it was not as easy as it had been in the past with other gates.

Follow instructions before thinking it’s broken!
This was a great purchase! Installation was easy. You have the option of whether to use screws or not which was great because I didn’t want to put holes in the wall. There WILL be a gap between the door and other side where it is supposed to latch UNTIL it has been positioned and tightened properly on both ends. The latch is most likely NOT broken. Both prongs are not supposed to open when sliding latch open. You have to pull up on the door while engaging the latch and swing forward or back.I’ve had the gate for about a month now with a 25 lb puppy jumping up against it and a 10 lb cat kicking off and jumping over it every day. So far has proven to be sturdy.Hope this helps!

Great gate!
This gate was super easy to install. It is a sturdy gate and worked well! It’s also esthetically pleasing and matches our decor well. The only problem is that our son figured out how to open it…Lol.

Works for our standard size hallway!
Ok, this is like the 4th baby gate we've tried. The UPS man is sick of picking up baby gates. We're using this gate with the small extension piece but kept the others for when we need to move it to the wider part of our hallway where our stairs landing is. It was a little awkward on the install trying to find the right piece to use since the extensions are all different sizes, but after a little trial and error, we got it. This gate is sturdy and holds itself open, which is helpful. The finishes are nice in comparison to the other gates and it doesn't feel like cheap plastic. I'm 5' tall and cannot step over it (nor can I step over most baby gates so a wide opening was a must. There are only a few cons I can come up with:1) When it swings to the stay open position, it's spring loaded. It also swings past 90 degrees. You may need to put some type of padding on the wall where it smacks because it's probably going to smack. One of those door handle wall protectors will do the trick, we're using the table bumper pieces because our hallway jogs so there is a cut out and it hits a corner.2) Tightening the pegs, or whatever they're called, was slightly a PITA. I blame this more on the wrench.3) I imagine getting this to fit in certain places could get complicated because of the extension pieces, but you have to play trial and error to get your fit right. The wall bumpers are barely pulled out for ours but they're the standard long ones, so they should fit just about anywhere.4) The frame is sturdy and the latch is sturdy, but you can rock the door. We haven't had an issue with it popping the latch but I guess if you have a really solid hulk child, it could happen.5) The frame isn't flush so watch your toes. All in all, this is probably the most expensive baby gate I've ever bought in the 7 years I've been buying baby gates and it's probably my favorite. The gate isn't too heavy for the older child to open, it's easy to swing and the whole thing stays put. I really like the wide opening and works perfectly for our hallway. I also like that the gate doesn't expand like the Summer Infant Rustic Home Safety Gate because then there is no way to get little fingers caught that are trying to hold on. We're using this gate for 2 purposes, to keep the dog from going down the hallway and peeing someone and keeping the baby away from the stairs. It serves its purpose for both and while the bottom frame isn't open like I'd like, it's not cumbersome so you'll remember to step over it - most of the time. We're happy with our purchase even at this price point.

almost perfect?
Purchased as baby gate to block our 14mo. old toddler from a 40"+ opening to our kitchen. Arrived on time, included extensions for wider openings, options for screw or tension mounting, metal/ wood esthetic is perfect for our contemporary style town home. Installation is easy, metal is heavy and sturdy. wood swinging door is light weight, plastic accessory & mechanism for closure is not as secure compared to the safety 1st gate we also use. Tension has to be adjusted perfectly to operate smoothly & many attempts were made until successful. it feels over time it the plastic closure may fail, so it's almost perfect. the gate is essential for us now and even with those concerns we're satisfied with the product and have no regrets.
