Chokher Bali

Based on Rabindranath Tagore's book, this is an outstanding creation. Aishwarya Rai's performance is outstanding.This period movie about pre-partition Bengal and the progressive awakening to widows' issues is unique.This is a great escape to the culture that does not exist in today's India.

I have always know that male and female are viewed differently in all cultures/societies. This movie surely brings it to the forefront.What really grabbed my attention was how a formerly educated woman and one not formerly educated; how they relate to the men ,other woman around them and one another. This is movie I purchased and pleased I did I like learning of various cultures and how their lives are viewed during certain time periods.

This movie has a very good history. The acting by Aishwarya Rai and others characters is just fine. Aishwarya Rai is such a beautiful and sensitive woman that it's heartbreaking seeing two men refusing a marriage proposition with her. After these refusals she got married but she is widowed after a year. For that reason, she's being ostracized by the society and even if she's very well educated and stunningly gorgeous, she can't get married again. I am not an Indian, and I don't know a lot about this particular condition in the old India. I've seen another movie on the same theme. It's called Water and it is directed by Deepa Mehta. Her movie also depicts the miserable life of the widows but to an extent much worse than in this movie. Those who don't like films with singing and dancing will be happy since there's none in this one. Personally I like this stuff, but Choker Bali is the kind of movie not suited for that. Chokher Bali

I am aTexan who has developed a. Crush on Bollywood movies. My friends are not interested. I guess the subtitles are too much for the ignorant. Look at the other reviews for the story line. I love the main actress but I did not like her in this movie.

Very well acted , but sometimes a litle bit slow . The subject is very interesting and is still present at Indian society .

Based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore-san, a Nobel Prize winner.A small decision changes the life of many people a lot.Maybe the destiny of countries, India and neighbors, also.Such a deep theme I’ve learned.Not difficult to understand.Still, several key factors of the life are displayed, I think.Thank you very much.

DVD quality is good.Functioning properly.Sound quality is also good.Aishwarya is perfect as Vinodini. No one can do vinodini better than her. She looks so beautiful in this simple look.Packing of DVD was so bad. But it plays perfectly. So thats why still giving 5 stars.Definitely worth watching. Must buy.

Chokher Bali ist kein typischer Bollywoodfilm. Kein Gesang und auch kein Tanz. Dessen sollte man sich bewußt sein.Das Thema ist prägend, vor allem wenn man bedenkt das es für Indische Witwen bis heute so ist, je nachdem wo sie leben.Allerdings muß man bei diesem Film auch ne Menge an Geduld mitbringen. Er ist mehr als Ruhig im Geschehen.Das ist auch der Gund für einen Stern abzug. Sehr Ruhig und seeehr langatmig.Ansehen kann man ihn sich auf jedenfall.
