I like how this story is more personal and really explores ...
Amazon's reviews are inter-mixed up for Perdita Finn's three Equestria Girls book. This review is for My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Sunset Shimmer's Time to Shine. As you may or may not know, Cutie Marks help define the purpose of the characters in the My Little Pony world. From our brief and few involvements with Sunset Shimmer, we don't really know much about her and her real purpose, and her ambiguous Cutie Mark doesn't really shed much light on the matter. In this book, we get to follow Sunset Shimmer around, hear her thoughts and feelings, see her interactions with her friends, and most importantly, discover her goals and role in her new life in a new world. This is more of a slice-of-life type of story, so don't expect any epic battles or conflicts. It more about character building as we get into the mind and feelings of an atypical teenage girl trying to fit in: Sunset Shimmer. The setting is sometime between the last movie and the upcoming Friendship Games movie. The Sirens are mentioned, but are sadly not part of the story. Twilight doesn't visit, but she is still plays an active part throughout the story. It is rather refreshing and enjoyable to read a story that is not just adapted from an on-screen version. The story goes by quick-- shorter than Rainbow Rocks Mane Event book but seems a bit longer than the Rainbow Rocks book (the one adapted from the short stories). I like how this story is more personal and really explores the nature of friendship, be it with or without the involvement of magic. There is some padding of a few pages at the end with a "sneak peak" of the first few pages of the first Equestria Girls book: Through the Mirror.

One nice thing about this book is that includes the lyrics ...
This book is also based off a movie. One nice thing about this book is that includes the lyrics from the songs that are featured in the movie. This book is nice for kids who are starting to get into chapter books. The chapters aren't long which is nice for kids. There are some pictures throughout the book and the writing is a little bigger so it's not so intimadating for younger readers. My daughter loves this book almost as much as she loves the movie. If you know of someone who likes the My Little Pony Equestria Girls, then consider buying this book. The book is based off of a high school band trying to be the best. Then a trio of "bad girls" come in and try to control the school. It's up to the equestria girls to outdo these "bad girls" and show the school what friendship is all about.

If they like Equestria Girls -- order all three books
Purchased this book for our ten year old daughter -- she read it in about 5 days (just enough time to have the 2nd book arrive with Prime as well). If the recipient of this book even kind of like MLP I suggest ordering all three and saving the time. We purchased this first book for her for Christmas and she's now reading the third book (not even a month later). Glad to see her reading and excited about a book.

Rockin Girls, even when it's the Ponies that really rock
My 6 year old loves all things My Little Pony and the Equestria Girls is no exception. As an adult fringe member of the MLP fandom, I'm totally down with the heresy implied by rendering the ponies into human girls. Nonetheless, I can't deny the cuteness when music makes the girls clomp around like ponies and swing their manes even as their prehensile digits allow them to strum a guitar. Also, seeing the pony world translated into the human world can only feed the imaginations of young people, a sort of seeing "evolution" in action and increasing awareness that it's not always the characters or the plots of literature that are the main take-away, but the universal themes. Here, of course, the universal theme is friendship and party management and it all rocks.Have to admit the humor doesn't go as deep for the girls as it does for their pony counterparts. The writing is somewhat less layered, so far. Reading aloud to my girl, I somehow can't manage to do the voices and intonations in speech as effortlessly as I can when I'm reading G.M. Berrow's MLP books. So, it seems that the girls still need to find voices of their own? As long as the girls never totally take over the pony world, Equestria Girls will remain an interesting stretch to (or detour from) the franchise.

different from expected
I don't want to give too much away but I'm guessing like the first Equestria Girls book that some changes have been made between RAinbow Rocks book and the upcoming movie on the basic that what goes on with Ponyville's Twilight Sparkle in this book. As people might guess from the scene clips that leaked out The Great and Powerful Trixie is the girls problem this time around as DJ Pon3 talks the girls into forming a rock band then is challenged by Trixie. this book is extended versions of Rainbow Rocks animated shorts than the movie itself.

NIce Story; 8 year old loves the MLP Equestria Girls series
My 8 year old has been reading MLP books for a while and she really loves them. This one is just as enjoyable as the others. I often have to make her turn the lights out at night and get to sleep because she just wants to keep on reading. The Equestria Girls series has been a favorite of hers indeed.

12 year old likes it.
Well, since Amazon asked for MY review - I hate My Little Pony and everything about it. This book is absolute garbage. However, my 12 year old says she likes it and that's what matters.
