Misfits (Royal Academy Rebels, 1)

My 9 year old love the series. She read all three in a week.

It was a gift for a 10 year old. She loved it!

Misfits is about a princess named Devin who can talk to animals and wants nothing more than to become a veterinarian. But she can't because... any guesses? She's a PRINCESS!!Devin gets invited to attend the Royal Academy (RA). She not thrilled; she would rather stay at her own castle with all of her animal friends. But her mother forces her too.So Devin arrives at RA in a pumpkin coach which happens to be a great honor, and is escorted inside by Snow White's dashing brother Heath. ((Snow glad he's here!!)(Devin also gets her own lady in waiting, Brynn.) But Devin doesn't think him dashing at all like the other girls. But then she meets Prince Logan. Logan is a timid prince and is allergic to dragons, so he says. Did I mention that Devin also wants nothing more than to meet a dragon??? Logan and Devin become fast friends after defeating a tribe of harpies at the RA First Knight Out Ball together. But Deven gets in truoble with Headmistress Fairy Godmother Olivana for saving everyones skins because the princes were suppose to do the 'saving'. (It's the rule here at RA.)So Devin is now on strike one!!Devin also makes friends with her roomies Sasha, Sleeping Beauty Rose's sister, and Raina (I think that's how you spell it tell me if I'm wrong?) Snow Whites sister. Yeah Snow White has two siblings who would have thought?But then Devin gets a strike two when she saves her class's hides a second time from a dragon. One of her class mates steales a dragon egg and the dragon gets mad... so the lesson is DO NOT SEPARATE A MAMA AND HER BABY!! Anyways Sasha is the one who gets the egg back to the dragon but then SHE gets a strike one for helping Devin so SHE gets mad at Devin because she was trying to be a perfect princess but Devin ruined it! Yikes!Devin is now on strike two and she has a bad feeling something is up with Olivana. Oh by the way the harpies incedent was actually a test set up by Olivana. But Devin thinks something is up, BUT she surprisingly does not want to get kicked out of RA (three strikes and your out!) so she decides to try to be a perfect princess and not meddle in Olivana's business. But then........If you want to find out the rest go buy the book it is super good! Muwahahaha!!!!!Also, if you love this book and want to read more books by Jen, then I would highly recommend The Fairy Tale Reform School Series, and The Twisted Tale Series. (though only two of the Twisted Tales are atually by Jen, Conceal Don't Feel and Mirror Mirror, most of the other ones are good too, especially the ones by Elizabeth Lim!)Enjoy!!!!!

Jen Calonita has done it again in this series set in the same kingdom as Fairy Tale Reform School. Every prince and princess is required by law to attend the Royal Academy which is run by Fairy Godmother Olivina. Too bad for Devin, because she doesn't want to leave her home and the woodland animals that she cares for. As she tries to fit in and do what she thinks is right, she is reprimanded again and again by Olivina and warned to act like a true princess. But things at the academy are not what they seem. How do harpies manage to crash the first ball of the year? Why is there a dragon running amok and trying to barbecue students? Events just aren't adding up. Devin will need help from her roommates Sasha and Raina and her friends Heath and Logan to try and get to the bottom of the mystery.Fans of FTRS will be delighted with this new look at Enchantasia from a young royal perspective. Those readers who haven't met Gilly and the others from Reform School will still be able to plunge right in and cheer for Devin and her classmates as they attend classes while surrounded by pixies, talking mirrors, and all the rules in the school manual.Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys fairy tale retellings, feisty heroines, and lots of humor to go with the danger and mystery. The characters are all unique - prince who is allergic to dragons, a princess who writes a tabloid column, etc. and the setting is magical (really).

Got this for my daughter ho enjoyed the series so much i got told the story over and over again with much excitement!

Great read for middle schoolers.

I much preffered the original FTRS series to this book. It ended in the middled of thr story arc and saw little character development. Some engaging characters, but we don't get to learn mch about thedm aside from a few key cameos. Good book, but nothing compared to the Fairy Tale Reform School series.

Great story line for young reader. Funny and engaging.

Absolute must for anyone who wants to read fairy tales with new twists and great character depth!
