KNIPEX Dismantling Knife-1000V Insulated

I was sick and tired of gnawing and nipping and twisting and pulling outer cable sheathing on larger gauge wire(12 and 10 and larger). I have injured myself too many times using sharp cutters and knives and such, so I decided to buy this specialty combination hawk-billed cutter with a penetrating tooth on the end to start the cut into the insulation.I spent a little extra on this knife after first selecting a cheaper brand and then switching to this one. Wow, was I pleased with this knife. BUT, you have to be VERY careful when using it, because the blade is so sharp that you can find the tool 'coming at you' in a hurry after you have made the initial puncture into the sheathing with the barb at the end. Once I learned to hold on to both the knife and the cable firmly during the initial plunge, then gently pull the knife through the outer insulation, this tool worked even better than I'd hoped. But like I said, this baby is sharp and you should pop the protective sleeve back on to the cutter after each use. Every tinkering electrician like me needs one of these....unless you get a thrill out of slicing your fingers with a box cutter!

I am enjoying it, makes stripping back wire easy and fast once you figure out a technique. Cuts jackets off wire without cutting the insulation. Pulling back or working inside a box and pushing it forward. Careful for cutting too fast very sharp watched an older gentleman at work, use it for the first time and cut him self. The older journeyman liked the tool. Except for the bleeding part...I know what I am getting him for Yule tidings. That and cut free gloves. Hahaha.

Bought this for various types of wire applications. Works great on soft insulation, even the thicker stuff. However, it does not work well for any type of cable with a hard shell. You have to be able to get the keeper underneath the jacketing of the cable, and if there is not enough give to the insulation, then it will not stay in place. Would give it five stars for how well it cuts the soft stuff though. Also like all the other reviews BE CAREFUL this thing will pop out and take your fingers off!

F'ing awesome tool. Never knew it existed and we'll worth the top dollar. Cuts through romex jacket like butter. Start at the top and slide to where you want it. Wether it's a few inches for a few feet. I also strip the thicker stuff off of 2/0 when I do a service change. Nice thick insulation instead of grasping a full metal box cutter. Be careful it's sharper than sh-t

The media could not be loaded. I Bought this for stripping SER/SEU and it does a fine job of that. To my surprise, it also works fantastic stripping NM-B jackets. It fits well in my ape hand, I don't think I need this one to be insulated but it looks cool in my bag. This is very durable and safe with the beaded tip and would make an awesome gift for any electrician.
