This is truely a great train and engine
This is the second Durango and Silverton I have bought on Amazon. I got the first a year ago and had to have another. The locomotive and cars are beautiful with a lot of detailI noticed some of the reviews about the engines not running or stopping after a short period. Low and behold I got a loco that had a wheel of the axel!!This is usually an easy fix and I suspect why some have reported locomotives not working.First, these locomotives are extremely delicate. Use a great deal of care when removing from the box or any other handling. When a wheel is off the axel you can use light finger pressure to press it back on. Press the opposite side wheel at the same time so you squeeze the wheel onto the axel.BEFORE PRESSING ON THE WHEELmake 100% sure all the wheels are aligned and the make sure the droverods are aligned between the wheels. The easiest way to align the wheels and drive rod is to make sure the solid sections on the wheel rims all point in the same directionYeah I know you buy something new and it should be flawless. Sometimes they aren’t. It’s easier for some people to make the adjustment even though Amazon returns are fast.If you are unlucky and get a locomotive that has a loose wheel and are hesitant in the slightest just return it.This is a great set for a beginner or advanced enthusiast. The locomotive is DCC ready with an 8 pin slot in the tender.

1st time electric train owner; for around the Christmas tree
Received with no damage to the set. Carefully assembled the track on our dining room table for first run(will mount track to plywood later). Handling the engine a little hairy with such delicate beautiful details but, train ran smoothly, no derailing...love it! Will make a wonderful Christmas train, with plenty of adult supervision. Beautiful model, details and smooth operation. Never going back to plastic rails!

FUN, FUN, FUN
Our grandson loves his first train, and he spends quality time learning about how trains have shaped the history of this great country. We’ve purchased age appropriate books for him to learn with, and we’re learning along with him. Easy to set up, realistic train engine and cars, with a light and smoke from the engine.

Bachman Trains - Second Christmas in a row that they've disappointed.
It began last Christmas season when I purchased a set of N-Scale Bachman for around the Christmas tree. The train would not stay on the track (yes it was properly mounted to a board). Eventually, a wheel on the locomotive and all of the linkage fell off.As a Dad, I was crushed to see the look of disappointment on my young son's face. Thank you for that, Bachman.Fast forward to this Christmas. Again, I purchased a set of Bachman trains to place around the tree. But this time, I purchased HO scale thinking a bigger, heavier train would stay on the track. I was wrong.Again, these cars don't stay on the track. And again, the look of disappointment on my son's face as I packed this junk to return it.My suggestion: Buy Lionel.

Nice model of the Durango and Silverton Train
A nice HO scale train set based on the Durango and Silverton Railroad in the state of Colorado. It comes with a fair amount of tracks to make an oval along with the 2-8-0 steam engine it-self, its non-detachable tender, and a few cars. You get an old fashion passenger car and a matching combine car with a open passenger car. All of which are a little bit on the cheap side with plastic wheels and axles except the locomotive. The tender picks up the power from the tracks and locomotive has the motor and lights.Although you can purchase more matching (and higher quality) cars of the Durango & Silverton series in red as well a yellow caboose from Bachmann or your local hobby retailer. My only real complaint would be with the tracks and controller. The E-Z Tracks connect to each other just fine, but they feel a bit flimsy to me when disconnecting them. The Speed Controller on the other hand, well... it's very basic. Not much to say besides that it's lightweight and it gets the job done at least.I haven't had any issues running it around the track. The box did come damaged, but it nothing was broken. So the packaging is alright.

Very Nice Train Set
For Christmas I dug out my old HO trains from my youth to setup around the Christmas Tree. Unfortunately, they all needed service due to the lack of use. As I had some Durango and Silverton train cars from my visit there 20 years ago, I decided to go with this set. I am very pleased. The engine runs much quieter than my old trains and the couplers seem more reliable than the old style. I've run the train for hours with no issues at all. Very pleased with the purchase. As a side note, the controller seems to have much more power than my 20 year old controllers. My old trains (now serviced) seem to run better with this controller than my older ones.

Great starter set. The locomotive is detailed and fun to watch run
This train runs great and is fun to watch. Great starter set. The only thing I had to do with a couple pieces of track was press the rails flush with the ends of the track bed to make sure the mating rails met up flushly to avoid gaps between the rail connections. I just pressed the rail ends against a smooth hard surface until the ends were even. No derailment issues after that. The detail on this train set is really impressive, especially with the locomotive and its coal tender. Glad I got it!
