🎶 Unlock pro-grade audio wizardry with Teensy 4 Audio Shield Rev D!
The Teensy 4 Audio Shield (Rev D) is a high-fidelity audio expansion board designed exclusively for Teensy 4.x microcontrollers. It delivers 16-bit, 44.1 kHz stereo audio with simultaneous input/output capabilities via the SGTL5000 codec. Featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro-SD card slot for audio storage, and optional volume control and flash memory, it empowers developers to build sophisticated audio projects with ease using the Teensy audio library.

Works great
I followed the tutorial on the manufacturers web site and did all the examples. They all worked but when I tried the ones where blinking the LED was included they crashed. commenting out that part of the code, they ran perfectly. I am now developing my own code to build a noise reduction filter (DSP filter) for my ham radio set. The total cost of the processor board and this board is much less than one of the off the shelf DSL filters and I get to optimize my own code.

Very useful
I put this together with a teensy 4.1 to make an audio delay and now I'm working on a version with the codec instead of the whole audio board, to use with the teensy.

Fantastic! But Noisy
I coupled this Audio Board with a Teensy 4.0 to make a multi-function DSP audio processor and spectrum noise filter. However, the digital nature of both the MCU and Audio Board means that they radiate digital noise, which is a problem when you try to build it all into a proper device with a TTF display and audio amplifier, mounted closely together, inside an enclosure. I've made some progress reducing the noise, but I still have a significant crackling hissing.I'd like to see a PJRC tutorial about building real devices using the Teensy Audio Board, with all the usual peripherals, packed inside a proper enclosure. And to specifically address the problems of noise from the digital electronics getting into the pre-amp and amplifier stage.

Powerful Libraries, great sound
Pjrc has written library support that makes accessing the SGTL5000 chip simple for any level of maker or audio-tinkerer. Make sure you isolate with transformers for ground-loops, that will be the most likely cause of any noise. If properly isolated, this board is very noise free. The effects, graphic eq, delay, surround, etc. are simple to program and well documented in the handy gui web-site provided by PJRC.These boards (and the 3x compat boards) are my go-to boards for audio processing, and spectrum analysis projects.
