Best Portable sound for picky listeners!
Let me start by saying that I have very picky ears & being a musician, I have very high expectations from high-end headphones. I've used AKG products for years, but more in Microphones than headphones. I also want to mention that I also own a pair of Beats Studio to use during my frequent flights, and for home music listening, as well as a pair of Shure studio monitoring headphones for studio recording. I had also owned a pair of Bose QC15 & an old pair of over-ears with which I was very satisfied but the sound lacked bass in some music genres. So I needed a more portable pair on the go and I'm not a fan of earbuds (although the only earphones I appreciate are the iBeats with changeable noise-isolating buds).During my search for the perfect-sounding, high-end-like, portable headphones to use with my iPod/iPhone (a standard 32 ohm device, playing 256 Kbps AAC), I tried at least 50 different pairs from different manufacturers, always using the same tracks (using a range of genres to cover most music frequencies. I used: Dance, Electronic, Jazz, Alternative, Rock, Pop, Country, Classical). Some of the pairs I've tried included: Klipsch Premium One, Bose OE2i, Sennheiser HD 239, Beats Solo HD, Bowers & Wilkins P5 & P3, Harman Kardon Bluetooth wireless, Bose AE2i, AKG DJ closed-back, Monster Inspiration, Skullcandy Aviator, and many others but these were the ones I could have bought instead of the AKG Mini. Why the AKG Mini Q460 won?- Frequency Response from 11 Hz - 29.5 KHz (you won't find that important piece of information on the product description. Only found in the manual & product box with a clear audible proof!!). If you don't know what these figures mean, simply know that a standard pair of headphones has a range of 20 Hz - 20 KHz. Having a bigger range means hearing more details in sound as well as delivering better sound throughout different music genres. The range for higher-end sets is 15-25. So the AKG's range is clearly my far greater, thus providing superb sound fidelity!- Loudest sound output with low noise, decent Bass & Mid-range thanks to its 40mm drive (usually found in larger-sized headphones).- Best external noise isolation thanks to its closed-back design & 40mm drive (not to be confused with active noise-cancellation found in the Monster pair). Once on, you won't hear anything around you unless it's overly loud. Won't isolate a plane's or subway's noise but you'll still listen pleasantly to your music.- Most comfortable (the only one I didn't take off after over 4 constant hours of listening. They get softer within the first week of use)- Smallest headphone size (for great portability) without compromising sound quality.- Lightest of all I've tried so hanging them around my neck for hours of walking doesn't hurt or add any weight. They also don't add much weight to my handbag!- Most importantly: The ONLY pair that gave me the most DETAILED sound in ALL music genres that I've tried.- Best $90 value (compared to others that cost as much as $300).- And YES, it sounded better than the B&W P5!! (AKG was louder, more comfortable, & more detailed. P5 failed at Electronic, Dance, and Country).- Build quality although the B&W were also very good. But I didn't expect such a quality for a $90 priced pair. I have the black pair.- Finally, my trust in AKG quality of their products (although I also had good trust in B&W, Bose, Harman Kardon & Sennheiser). In short, this pair of headphones did not disappoint me. I did not have any issues with quality after frequent using (had it for almost a month now with daily use & even tossing them inside my bags without the case sometimes). I use it with the in-line mic cable because it works seamlessly with my iPhone & MacBook. The other cable is indeed too short for practical use! Instead, I use it as an audio cable to connect my iPod/iPhone via Aux connection in my car or other speakers (it's a great quality cable that comes in very handy, & I like the lime-green color that stands out so it's not easily lost among other black cables). If you're checking those headphones right now, do not hesitate! It's an easy buy that's worth all the money and it's already down-priced! Why pay hundreds of dollars for other headphones that don't sound as good? Yes I still love my over-priced Beats Studio but they are not portable & I hate having them on the go, plus they are too heavy when I'm hanging them around my neck! So the AKG are my choice for a portable pair of headphones to take along without compromising high-end sound quality that I would get out of the larger, less-portable sets. Hope this review helps with your decision...Update: After a few months of continuous use now, I have to say that they are holding very well. Haven't used the case much and yet they remain sturdily intact despite tossing them in my bag wherever I go. I also have to say that I'm now strongly favoring their sound to my pricey Beats Studio and that is very likely due to the AKG's larger frequency response, considering that both headphones use a 40mm driver. AKG, you did a great job on this one!!! My next comparison will be with a pair of Grados. Keep checking for another update soon.

I love them.
**Update**After 10 months of usage I love them even more and I'm not sure if this is all on my head but they seem to sound better also. Here is a more mature review for any interested on these wonderful headphones.Pros:-Wide variety of sound:These are cool for Rock, Jazz, Reggae and Electro. I recently bought the Vmoda LP2 and they suck at playing anything different than electronic music.-Extremely fun bass:For their portable profile the bass is amazing, if you hear trance or DnB they kinda tickle your ears. And do not be confused, that's a good thing for me, other headphones deliver a boring flat sound as the M50x AudioTechnica for example, which is not a bad headphone at all, but is too flat for my taste.-Portable:The case and the headphones are both really small, you can take them anywhere you want. As a weekend college student they are my loyal companions, I just throw them on my backpack and it's done. The case is stiff and protects them very well, but beware with liquids as its not water proof.Cons:-Sound IsolationI mean, they are over the ear headphones, they obviously are not designed to block extremely noisy environments. They do a decent job blocking some of the incoming sound. But if this is something mandatory for you look for over the ear headphones. The sound leakage is minimal but they might disturb people on the same room if you use too much volume.-Confortabiltiy:Again, over the ear headphones are usually not the most comfortable of all, these are not the exception. After 2 hours of listening you will have to take them off to let your ears rest a bit. Is not that they are hell uncomfortable. However I have normal sized head, if your head is big this might become a huge problem.-The Cable:The removable cable is cool and good quality. However the connection on the jack seems a little weak and loose. while it hasnt given me any problem just jet, it worries me every time I put my plugged cellphone on the pocket of a thigth pair of jeans. Those "L" shaped jacks ala vModa or Sennnheiser Momentum style would definitely be mandatory for these. BTW it comes with two cables: the inline normal sized cord and a smaller one without mic, designed to put your device on your s*** pocket maybe... I don't know, I only use the normal sized one.-The inline mic:It has a small and bearly perceivable hizz sound, and is not as clear as a dedicated headset. Personally I just answer quick calls with them, less than 5 minutes. But if you are planning to use them for long talks or trash talking on Skype this might be a problem for you. Also volume buttons don't work with Android devices.Bottom line:I do recommend these headphones if you have an ample musical tase and need good looking and portable headphones that deliver good quality sound with just a descent noise isolation.Old and original review:About comfort, at first I was a little scared since the ear pads looked really small, but they fit just nice. I have normal sized ears, if yours are bigger they may not be comfortable. The case is really nice and well made, just like the headset, but I had a little trouble closing it as it doesn't fit 100%, not really a big deal for me.The cords are from high quality, but they have a little drawback... it comes with one with a mic, which you may end up using for everything because the normal cord is way to short, it is just long enough to put your iPod or cellphone on your shirt pocket or maybe on some of those arm clips for jogging/gym, only then the size becomes a plus since you will not have excess of cord hanging around, I don't use them that way, so for me it's a drawback.Overall I'm very happy with the headphones, the accessories may not be as nice as they could but they are OK.

Two words: Auditory Orgasm
I love these headphones! Got them 3 hours ago, and I've been testing them out with all sorts of music (dance, pop, dubstep, dnb, rock and even classical) and I have to say, they're great. The sound is crisp and clear, and they still feel very comfortable (though I've had them on for 3 hours).Size wise: they're big enough to create a seal around your ears to eliminate any outside noise. I only have the volume half way up, and I can't hear anything else except my music. They come in a hard black pouch which is properly padded, so no need to worry that they'll break any time soon.On the down side, I'm not sure how long the ear padding will last though, as it doesn't look like treated leather and the description is "supersoft ear pads".Overall, I would definitely recommend them, considering that their standard price is 129.99£ and amazon sells them with 53.05£
