The reaons why I’m doing this is because I saw some reviewers commented they sound alike. If you can tell the tonality difference of the piano tones among YAMAHA/Steinway/Bosendorfer, you wouldn’t tell Aria/Starfield/KXXS sound alike. If not they all sound “piano”.Try look out youtube with following title:“Can You Hear The Difference Between a Steinway, Yamaha and Bosendorfer? “—Aria (removed hex filter) : Yamaha-Cleanest tone of all three, less overtones, reminiscent to Yamaha grand piano in the video.[with original stock hex filter attached]-the mid range distortion resulted Aria to sounds like inappropriately tuned Bosendorfer—Starfield: Steinway-Balanced tone from top to bottom with moderate overtones and thus producing comparatively milder tone between two sisters reminiscent to Steinway grand piano—KXXS : Bosendorder-Richest overtone of all three, mellower midrange produces very euphoric tuning among all sisters, reminiscent to Bosendorrer grand piano—TL;DRStarfield is still relevant and it is IEM world’s Sennheiser HD650. Even after it’s 4th year of product lifespan, Starfield sounds as good as most of IEMs you can find from the market for a single dynamic driver equipped. If you prefer more quick and nimble sound, Moondrop’s Aria ($79) would serve the job.If you are listening electronically mixed tracks mainly, or you need more technical expression, Truthear HEXA ($79) is no-mistake solid offer. Subtle but mesmerizing and grows on you. I don't think I can go back to ordinary earbuds.
I am not an audiophile. I know what bass is but I couldn't tell you exactly what does or even what IEM stands for. I'm someone that grew up on earbuds that you can just get for $20 or $30 from Walmart. My go to choice have been Zune Premium earbuds (the ones with the fabric cable). Since Zune's long gone, I've collected as many pairs of them as I can, but I'm currently on my last pair.I saw these Moondrops in a suggest and was immediately drawn to them because of the color and shine. I had never seen earbuds with a detachable cable. I have bad luck with buds, because too soon the sound starts fading out of one ear either due to wiring or just the way I use them. I'm not rough with them at all, but they all just putz out on me too soon. So seeing earbuds with a detachable cable that I could replace was an automatic win.I'll just briefly mention the packaging, because that's not why I purchased these. Presentation was spot on and impressive. I love that a little case was included along with extra screens in case the originals need replacing. People have mentioned that the cord tangles easily and I can see that, but it doesn't seem any more apt to tangle than any other brands I've had. I can't comment on the quality of the cable, but the quality of the earbuds themselves...wow! They feel solid and well constructed. It took me a few to figure out how they went in my ears and even how to hook up the cables. There is a very tiny 'L' and 'R' on the cables, and the earbud with the compass is left and the one with 'Starfield' is right. They fit pretty darn well in my ears, and I was surprised at how comfortable they were. I've worn them for hours at a time and had no issues with tenderness or fatigue in my ears. I don't think I'd recommend wearing these while exercising. I'll wear them when I clean the apartment, but they tend to want to slip out due to their weight combined with sweat.I have a very wide range of music that I love, nearly everything but rap and R&B. So I put these babies in my ears and tested them with my Sony NW-A45/B Walkman. I listened to rock, trance, country, new age..etc basically to test how they sound. While I've never really fussed with the equalizer on mp3 players, I did with these in. The differences in sound and tone in the songs I tested was beautiful, and it was like I was hearing them for the first time without the muddiness of regular headphones. I could hear more instrumental parts and vocals that weren't overly clear to me before. The only aspect of these earbuds that I find disappointing is songs that have a deeper bass. I don't hear the same punchy bass like I'm used to. I don't attribute that fault of the Moondrops but probably to me being so used to hearing songs for years with deeper base headphones. While I'd love to hear something that is several thousands of dollars to see what difference I could hear, I am very happy with these Moondrops. While I can put in my old Zunes and listen to songs that I'm used to hearing, I find myself appreciating the quality and difference in sound these buds produce. I honestly do not think I will be able to go back to regular headphones/earbuds again after being exposed to this kind of good sound quality. One final thought. While listening to these, I experienced one glitch/issue. I heard static and popping in the left bud, but it went away as soon as it appeared. If it happens again, I'll get these replaced and will also update my review on these earbuds longevity. If you are considering these and can afford to do so, I'd recommend purchasing them. I doubt you will be disappointed unless you are an audiophile and are able to decipher far more from their sound quality than I can.EDIT: Finally got a chip in the paint on one of the buds 3 months later. Sealed it with a tiny bit of clear nail varnish.Note: I did NOT receive this product for free or a discount. I paid for this product in full with my own money.
