Quite possibly the best fitting coat I've ever owned
The liner on my beloved leather jacket has completely shredded and the insulation is starting to fall out. With repair estimates running north of $150, I was in the market for daily-wear coat that would stand up to a NY winter while not overheating me during a 40-minute commute. I work about 70/30 indoors/outdoors, but I'm in and out several times a day, and I don't like layering. I typically throw a heavy jackshirt over a t-shirt down to roughly 45 degrees, then start grabbing something heavier once temps get closer to freezing. First thing's first; I practically obsessed over this purchase. I tried on dozens of coats and even purchased and returned a few before trying this one. While I'm admittedly a tough fit (6'3", 56" chest, 38" arms, 38" waist), I usually fall somewhere in the XXLT and XXXLT range. The problem is most garments cut for "big guys" assume a 12" variation between chest and waist. So, an XXLT usually fits the midsection well but is too tight in the shoulders, and a XXXLT fits the shoulders but hangs on me like a garbage bag. To make matters worse, nearly everything I looked at online or in stores seemed to be missing a key feature I wanted. This coat seemed to have it all; a hood (for my bald head), a double zipper (very important for driving in a longer coat), zippered chest pockets (no phones slipping out when bending over or moving around), a non-removable liner (no sleeves pulling out every time I take it off), and a draw cord for my aforementioned fit issues. I ordered a 2XLT and hoped for the best. Well, it seems I found a hidden gem. What I didn't anticipate is how the "Full Swing" design provides extra material cleverly worked in to the back and shoulders. I literally cannot believe that I can cross my arms with zero binding, AND the waist/gut section is not excessively baggy. I pulled the bottom in a few inches with the draw cord and it's actually pretty damn stylish. This is also a typical Carhartt-quality garment, but the "duck" material is softer and not as thick as some other Carhartt products (like my well-worn hooded jacket). It seems tough enough for daily wear, but I don't intend to wear it for really tough, dirty work; it's way too nice. The removable hood is huge, easily pulls over a baseball cap, and cinches down well with a cord. There are two zippered/horizontal chest pockets; both are quite large and are tacked internally so items don't cause them to sag. The two hand warmer pockets have storm flaps with snaps on them and took a little getting used to. They are a bit shallow, especially compared to the chest pockets, but I can still get my entire (largish) hand inside. The brass zippers are large enough to manipulate with gloves, and operate smoothly without snagging on the sides. It warm, and being able to unzip the top AND bottom gives it the flexibility to vent it out when needed. Yeah, I'm really happy with it. I'm hoping the lighter brown stays clean... I'm actually thinking I might hit it with some fabric protector as I write this, but it's machine washable either way. Maybe I'm just a little giddy over finding a coat that fits as if it was made for me. I'll wear it this season and update this review if needed. One last note; I originally selected a slightly different style and ordered it via Amazon, but my Honey add-on suggested another Amazon seller other than the one initially provided. I went with them, saved a few bucks, got the same 2-day Prime shipping, AND got a no-nonsense, return-shipping-paid return. Well, as I was writing this review I noticed that the price of the coat dropped by $40.00. I called Amazon and was given a credit on my account. MAD props to Amazon and Honey for making the case for shopping from home even more compelling.

Solid comfortable midweight jacket with tradeoffs.
I am happy with the coat. Mostly pros on this medium weight Carhartt detachable hood jacket. Pros: The price was great (130$). The quality construction, thoughtful number and location (see below) of pockets, fabric flexibility, drawcord effectiveness. Zippers are beefy, high quality metal. Warmth, I wore this outside to clear snow. Was mid 20s with windchill feeling like 9 degrees. The coat cut the wind and was actually too warm with a long sleeve wicking shirt and thick fleece layered underneath. I especially like the flexibility of the fabric which makes this comfortable to wear when driving. I hold no Illusions this jacket is super-warm or waterproof-it’s treated with a durable water resistant (DWR) coating-but you do get rip resistance and it’s not a thick insulation but I can layer. Cons: These are noticable but admittedly nitpicks. 1:Sizing is crazy big. Amazon suggested I get an xxl. I’m glad I based my decision on reviews where other customers gave their size and weight. The XLT fits me well and allows me to layer over a thick hoodie. There is still ample room in body (tighter but still ok in shoulders). 2: Hood: I would prefer an integrated hood as there is too much material going on around neck with the detachable design, I will acknowledge this is a pretty good design for a detachable hood and good size over a ball cap. But, the drawstrings on the hood look a bit dysfunctional-a rubber gasket controls tightening-I expect this to fail. Carhartt struggle on hoods IMHO/experience. 3: Side pockets should be bigger and closer to sides (there may have been reasons for this?). 4: Bottom hem may be too wide/loose, I have to relate this to the sizing variables (it’s a tradeoff as I doubt I could layer under a Large Tall size. Will hopefully not be too loose when I am wanting everything tight to prevent a heat loss through chimney effect. 5: Color: No Carhartt brown? 6: double zipper takes some getting use to. Overall I think it’s going to be a keeper and frequently worn jacket. You give up some warmth with midweight insulation, and comfort of the detachable hood-but gain flexibility of use in a wider range of temperature (and you can layer up). For all the issues with sizes, Carhartt does provide a great range of big&tall options.

My Perfect Jacket - Carhartt Men's Full Swing Cryder Jacket Navy Blue
Carhartt Men's Full Swing Cryder Jacket: Navy Blue Big and Tall. For me there is only one coat or jacket that I want to own, they must be waterproof, have a hood, durable fabric material and fade resistant, dark (Navy) blue, & heavy duty design of components (zippers, snaps, seams). Carhartt is known for some of the best jackets for every day use, Navy Blue Carhartt’s are a special order and hard to find in local Central Illinois stores, so I have ordered various types over the years that I still use. This was my first order of this style and insulation weight that I call for around a high of 30 F jacket, I also used Prime wardrobe for the first time to make sure it fit and that I could inspect it before buying. Happy with jacket and Amazon’s Prime Wardrobe. This Carhartt Men's Full Swing Cryder Jacket is more flexible than most of my other jackets/coats and has a rear lip that is longer than in front, I am 6’2” and did not buy Tall, happy with fit, it is warm for a medium weight jacket and stops rain and wind when button down with all the features. Mine had two outside hand pockets that closed with a snap, one outside zipper lapel pocket big enough for cell ohone and wallet plus one inside pocket with velcro fastner for cell phone or wallet. The hood is insulated and warm plus detachable by snaps, I especially like the front edges of hood that are under your chin since they tuck into flaps to snap in place on each side of jacket collar, this hides the ends and keeps them from bothering your face. PS “Full Swing” is for chopping wood with an Ax, not likely that I will be doing that but think you could swing a bat with the grandkids or a golf club if you wanted too. My best single comment is: Carhartt Men's Full Swing Cryder Jacket FEELS BROKE IN THE FIRST TIME I WORE IT!

Tough, reliable, warm, perfect for fieldwork and traveling!!!
I bought this jacket for the first time 5 years ago. I mostly use it to do fieldwork in Patagonia. However, at some point, it became my main traveling jacket. Its confortable, very warm without being heavy, rain resistant, and heavy duty. As the first one I got was starting to look to rough for traveling, I got another one. Carhartt remains high quality working clothing. Its better than other outdoor brands. Sizing runs similar to Under Armour or Tommy. Im size small in those and small is also good in Carhartt.

Nice jacket but some slight annoyances
Overall, I really like this jacket. It is a bit softer material than a normal Carhartt jacket. I am 5’9” 160 lbs and ordered a medium. It is a loose fit jacket so I am able to wear a hoodie on underneath with no mobility issues or with the jacket feeling tight. It is pretty warm and so far, seems to stand up under rain for shorter periods of time. It comes with a removable hoodie which is nice too. The length is fine too. I had ordered a Carhartt Bartlett jacket relaxed fit jacket in medium and it was a tight fit with a hoodie on and was super short for overall length so I returned it. This one was great. Now for the annoyances: - the zipper is pretty darn annoying. I have to fight with it every time to get it to work. I think I might have just found the trick today though. I hold the bottom zipper with my middle finger while trying to fit the zipper in the top of the first zipper (there are 2 zippers on the front of the jacket). We shall see. - the front pockets are not zippered, they are buttoned. Wtf? - most annoying of all is the cuff on the sleeves. There is an elastic cuff on the sleeve, but then a part of the outer jacket extends over the cuff about 2.5 inches. This brings the outer part of the jacket sleeve to the middle of my hand, instead of my wrist. I’ve been folding it back so it doesn’t bug me as much but not sure what Carhartt was thinking here. I got this on sale for $120 so I am overall pretty happy with the jacket and will be keeping it. Would likely buy it again when the time comes as well.

Warm, well made, great dog walk coat!
Warm, and comfortable in 30°F degree weather. Lots of room to move. Long sleeves hang over your wrist to keep cold out when extending your arms. Dual zippers let you open the jacket from the bottom up while keeping the top closed. Great for getting keys, billfold, phone, etc out of your jeans pockets. Water resistant, but not waterproof to downpour. Big pockets handle cell phone with otter case. Smooth hood lining doesn't catch on velcro in ball caps. Comfortable for driving truck, as it's not bulky like bigger coats.

Size to true or one down for preferred look
I’m 6’ feet 225 pounds, 20 inch shoulder width, 48-50 chest, and 38 waist. I typically wear XL in UA shirts. I ordered an XL. It fit well but does look boxy and I worry about cold coming up from the bottom. Which shouldn’t be a problem since you can cinch up the bottom. It’s loose fit and additional flex panels, give plenty of room to layer a thick hoodie and more. If Large Tall was available, I would’ve sized down to get the look I’m after. Good thing I ordered an LT relaxed fit in another design and got the look and fit I was after. Will give this to my son since he wears XXL shirts and this fits his height well. Plenty warm and quality you would expect from this brand. Thought the sizing info and my measurements helps.
