Hoya 77mm Starscape Light Pollution Cut Filter BLACK

Does what it is supposed to do, very happy.

I have used these before for astro photography. A new lens with a smaller diameter meant I needed this filter.

I'd assumed this was New in a sealed case. The case had been opened and the sticky tabs either side were gone (leaving the sticky stuff behind) so it's at least been opened. I won't bother to return it but it should've said if it wasn't brand new. OK, it was a bit cheaper, but still £50!Not used it yet, but a quick photo of my street lights shows it does work, at least on those!

This is a brilliant LPF for attaching directly to the camera lens, in my case a FijiFilm XT2. If you were to buy this as a smaller filter, (i.e 1.25" or 2") for dedicated use with a telescope it would cost a fortune, as its by a recognized brand - Hoya. Hoya specialise in glass filters and are one of best trusted brands out there.I use the the filter for long exposure wide angle shots directly though the camera on my Fuji XF 35mm f1.4, using a motorised Star Watcher GTI mount and it yields fantastic results, the LPF really does work and filters out much of the excessive artificial lighting in built up areas such as street lighting and genralised made made glow.Highly recommended and teriffic value. I just they were available in 2" threads for use directly with eyepices in the telescope.

easy to install and comfortable to use

Attached is a single exposure taken in the UK under a Sky with Class 5 Bortle light pollution and very minimal editing. Much better results than I had at this location without the filter, not to mention is was also the shortest night of the year back in June so my window of opportunity to get this image was very small.

I generally highly rate Hoya filters. I tried this filter where I live in suburbia, with the Pentax K-3iii, which has an astro tracking function (to get maximum light to the sensor I use f2.8). However the filter did not give sufficient contrast in a clear sky for the astro function to work correctly with the light pollution. I did manage to take images away from light pollution and when the images were zoomed in above 50%, some artefacts were shown around stars, compared to images without the filter. On this basis, I returned the filter. Other users may find full view images totally acceptable - down to personal preferences.

Just what i needed to help in the astro game

It blocks a significant amount of light pollution and increases the contrast of images. I live in a rather light polluted area and have difficulty see stars of 3rd magnitude and dimmer. Don’t know if the filter blocks as much as the more expensive filters for deep sky astrophotography on the market but the Hoya Starscape Light Pollution Filter is good.

En las primeras pruebas he podido apreciar como el color amarillento de la contaminación lumínica no se apreciaba y el color era más natural, aunque seguía existiendo una iluminación en el entorno que es inevitable.Seguiré haciendo más pruebas y más adelante revisaré la reseña. De momento lo que he visto me ha gustado.
