Great for kids
My son has been begging for this game forever! However since it's the PS3 they don't have carry it in many stores, purchasing on Amazon was very easy and it got here quickly the game itself is pretty cool the portal is interesting the fact they have to build the characters is really cool because if you build them a different way they enter is totally different character so it kind of allows you to "master build" which is awesome for any Lego fan. We have had it for less than 24 hours and my son cannot put it down he's already asking for extension packs. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Some answers on how this game works that I wasn't able to get else where
I gave it 4 stars cause I like the lego games . . . BUT I really had to search hard to get straight info on this game. I finally got some basic info from a game player at a GameStop store. Obviously Lego wants people to buy more which is why you have extra lego "kits". These lego build kits come with a disk that is attached to the pieces. These characters are then placed on the portal pad which the adds that piece to your game. Some pieces are additional characters with special abilities and other pieces are cars and such. So far as I've played the game, ALL are needed to get certain things and / or progress in the game.NOTE on set up of the portal- if you can set the portal pad set close to where you're going to sit cause you will have to move the characters to certain spots that light up on the pad during the game. For instance, when you get frozen by the bad witch in the first fight scene, the portal pad will light up red under the characters that are frozen, and you'll need to move them to the white spots to free them. It would have been nice to have a wireless portal cause my TV and computer connections are not close to where I sit. Getting up and down is not the problem, but it does stop the flow of the game. Here's how it works when you get the starter game set =After connecting the pad to your computer and the internet you'll and turn it on and put in the disk- you'll be asked if you want to down load info and updates. It takes about 30 - 40 minutes so be patient. Then you can either follow the directions in the handbook or from the disk on how to build the portal. The Portal build directions is both in the handbook and on the disk -- the Bat Mobile ( package # 3) build directions are only on the disk when you need the Bat Mobile to go further in the game. You DO NOT HAVE to build the PORTAL - there is nothing in the portal build set that connects to the game. BUT you will have to build the characters and the BAT MOBILE. All have the disk at the bottom that interacts with the portal pad, and all are needed to start the game - including the Bat Mobile. Also note that these characters do not snap into a spot but will sit freely on lighted spots on the portal pad.You really don't have to build the lego characters or the bat mobile, but I suggest that you do cause the pieces will be easier to ID and move around on the portal pad. Someone asked if you can glue the lego pieces together - a smart aleck answer was given - but so far I don't see why you can't glue them together since it appears that the interacting disks belong only to that certain lego build. I can appreciate wanting to glue lego pieces together cause I've had them come apart after being knocked over. The portal does have a LOT of very small pieces, and Batman holds a small Bat-r-ang.I've only started the game, but so far it's ok fun. The characters abilities and movements don't seem to be exactly the same as they are on the regular disk games. Also I may have missed it, but I did not see any info in the handbook or see playing the game that you will have to move the characters to certain lit up spots on the portal pad -- I thought the game had a glitch and restarted the level. Not a horrible spot - but it would have been nice to have known before starting to play. And the story play line seems choppy and annoyingly based on buying the "extra characters" or using costly "in game" studs. I've come up to parts in the game where you can "rent a character for a limited amount to time" for a lot of studs - and I mean a lot so I wouldn't even consider this option until you've hit the full stud meter.I'm sure I will find more things as I play further, but I hope this helps people out a bit on how the portal and pieces work and interact. I'm not sure I would have bought Dimensions if I'd known all of this before hand cause I don't have a good protected place to put the portal -- or a place where I can put the portal close to where I play. That said, not that I do have the game I'll probably buy more characters pieces. The new much lower price that Dimensions is selling for now is nice!Have fun!

We like it, but prefer to play the regular Lego ...
We like it, but prefer to play the regular Lego games like Batman 2 & 3, Marvel Superheroes, and Avengers. Lego dimensions is so involved, you have to sit near the platform because you constantly have to switch people around to complete certain tasks - which is complicated even for me who is savvy with video games. It's certainly not a game in which my 5 year old can just play by himself without my help. Plus you need like a million characters to fulfill certain tasks. Also, the rollout for new characters and worlds has been really slow. My son also likes Disney Infinity better, which has better characters and is easier for him to play. Each level on this game takes forever to complete, so unless you have over an hour to kill, don't even bother turning it on. The updates take forever as well. Overall, it's ok.

Awesome game
MOST AWESOME GAME I'VE EVER SEEN. I especially like that my kids can load more than one of the same character(Sonic) so no fighting over who gets to be sonic....yay. such depth to the world's and you can do anything in each one. Best buy

If you are a fan of LEGO games, you need this.
I bought this as an xmas gift for my 8 year old son (and myself, kinda), and he loves it. The LEGO games in general are something he and I like to play together, so getting a set/game that is not only more interactive, but also expandable was right up our alley. Since picking this up, we've added a level pack, a team pack, and 2 fun packs - and have no intentions of slowing down any time soon. Love this game, and all the new playable "dimensions" that it brings together.
