I've been walking to work for over 25 years. No matter what the weather is, I'm always on foot. During rainy days I absolutely depend on a quality umbrella, especially if it's windy. I used a Hammacher Schlemmer "wind defying umbrella" for most of those 25 years and it served me well. But as with all things, it finally bit the dust. Was going to purchase that again from them, but thought I would browse Amazon to see if there was anything comparable. Read good reviews of this umbrella by LifeTek, and with the great price, I decided to go for it. Coming up on the one year point and will say I'm very happy with the performance. I've used this in 30-40mph winds and it's held on strong. At first glance, you can see it's well made. In fact, it is quite heavy and sturdy - that's not a bad thing. To truly make it through high winds, those light-weight, flimsy umbrellas have no chance. So you need it to be sturdy. But it's not so heavy that it strains your arm. It has a push-button mechanism to open and it opens rather gently and smooth. Some umbrellas open abruptly and you wonder how many times it can handle that kind of abuse. The tie-around band to secure it is velcro - probably wouldn't be my first choice (buttons last longer) but it also comes with a sheath that fits over the umbrella snugly to keep it under control when not in use. In addition to being sturdy, you need decent coverage when walking distances in the rain. This product gives you more than enough coverage, especially if you wear a backpack. With a slight tilt backward, you can protect your backpack and still keep the rain off you. One thing (and this is true of all large umbrellas), you have to be mindful of other pedestrians. My experience is people usually get out of my way when they see a large umbrella. So, yeah, I like the intimidation factor. (haha) What really impressed me with this company was my first umbrella arrived with a slight gap in the ring near the tip. It didn't affect the operation of the umbrella and I was just going to live with it, but decided to ask the company about it. I was informed that it was in fact not normal and they immediately shipped me a replacement. From the things I've read about LifeTek, they seem to stand by their products and put thought into the quality of what they sell.

Perfect Umbrella! Sturdy weight not too heavy. Opens and closes with ease. Red button makes it easy to locate when placed with other umbrellas. Size keeps me dry. Great in the wind! Has never reversed. Functions as a good umbrella should! My son borrowed it and lost it! I ordered a replacement the next day! I replaced the umbrella not my son but I thought about it! I love my umbrella!

I am a daily commuter. I am 5'7". I needed a large, though not too large, umbrella for me and my bag/laptop on stormy/windy days that looked professional and sleek and did the job. I read reviews, purchased this LifeTek New Yorker, and never looked back. It is really well made, with sturdy umbrella material, it features a great looking and comfortable handle, it has a strong feel, a robust stick top, and a really neat push button that opens the umbrella in a controlled way - not too quickly, not too slow. I suppose it is a bit masculine looking, but in no way over the board. I had it for a year and it never had issues under any rain or wind; Never did it reverse, protected me and my bags, and one would never tell I had used it other than a little wear at the stick top as it is used to rest the umbrella on the ground. I left it somewhere on a trip and bought a second one immediately. Other commuters at work have commented on its looks and have asked where to buy one. Big thumbs up

I've had this umbrella for 3 months and this week after a windstorm, much rain and a run-in with a blackberry bush, I feel compelled to write a review. A few days ago I stepped aside on a narrow path to let someone by and the umbrella got entangled in a tall blackberry bush that I had not seen next to me. As I was tugging to free the umbrella, another passerby commented, "Wow that is really stuck in there." Amazingly enough, although I expected to see tears and runs in the fabric after this thorny battle, there were none! Aside from being resistant to tears, the Teflon fabric is indeed water repellent. After walking in heavy rain, a few shakes before entering my home leaves the umbrella dry enough to bring inside and store without worrying about drips on the floor. It does have a slip-on cover but I don't use it. We also had a windstorm this week that knocked out power and downed tree branches..but the umbrella held up well. All I had to do was hang on during wind gusts and the textured handle with indentations makes it comfortable and easy to hang on to.
