Cary Grant plays John Robie, reformed jewel thief who was once known as "The Cat," in this suspenseful Alfred Hitchcock classic presented here newly remastered from a 4K film transfer. When Robie is suspected of a new rash of gem thefts in the luxury hotels of the French Riviera, he must set out to clear himself. Meeting pampered heiress Frances (Grace Kelly), he sees a chance to bait the mysterious thief with her mother's (Jessie Royce Landis) fabulous jewels. His plan backfires, however, and Frances, who believes him guilty, proves her love by helping him escape. In a spine-tingling climax, the real criminal is exposed.

Wonderful Hitchcock film.
This wonderful old Hitchcock movie received an excellent restoration, prompting this purchase. I am glad the team at Paramount, headed by Charlotte Barker, took the necessary care to bring the film back to life. Grace Kelly and Cary Grant head the cast. The other star of the film is the French Riviera. It was Hitchcock’s wife who suggested a unique filming technique for the time- put the camera in a helicopter! The resultant aerial perspective of the Grand Corniche is quite spectacular, given one of the earliest uses of VistaVision to maximize image detail. .

The 4K UHD blu-ray is very nice
Certainly nothing to complain about. It's well worth the money. For those who already have the standard blu-ray, yes it's a nice upgrade although it's not an earth shaking upgrade. The benefit of 4K varies depending on the scenes. Some scenes it's not very noticeable at all if any, and other scenes it looks noticeably better. All in all, I've had the DVD, the standard blu-ray and now the 4K disc, and I'm very happy that I made the choice to upgrade. Of course, it's miles ahead of the DVD. In fact once you've had even the standard blu-ray, it's difficult to ever watch the DVD again. So yes, if you are lucky enough to own a 4K UHD blu-ray player, then by all means, buy this new 4K UHD upgrade. On a Hitchcock film, any improvement in image quality, however incremental, brings you closer to the original experience the audience had in the theater back when it was first released.

Absolutely Stunning 4k Restoration
As for the movie, it’s a great Hitchcock and Cary Grant collaboration. See other reviews for movie details. This 4k restoration from Paramount is incredible. The colors, clarity, details, and the sound are off the charts. It is amazing that this almost 70 year old movie looks as amazing as it does. I believe this restoration rivals some of the newer movies that are shot digitally in 4k. This 4k restoration has “set the bar” pretty high for classic movies. If you like Cary Grant and or Hitchcock movies, this is a must buy.

A classic movie
I hadn't seen it for a while. The movie has some nice shots of some cities built onto the edge of the mountains, and of course the scene where Kelly is motoring through villages and along high drop offs is thrilling. The only thing off on this version was the sound. Sometimes it was hard to hear Grant talking. Like when he is in his house, and when he's first in the restaurant. His voice is barely above the background noise. But it seems ok for most of the rest of the movie. And there is some conversation in a foreign language, and its not obvious what they are saying. They say the restaurant owner could not speak any English, and all of his English speaking was using someone elses voice.
