Q: Will this fit a 3/4 inch hole?

I make laser cut wood lamps and use these. Typically I replace the incandescent bulb with an LED, less/no heat. I've found that using a 1.125" hole works for me.

Q: Does the bulb get hot? Making nite lights out if recycled plastic bottles and don't want them to melt.

Yes. The bulbs do get as warm as this size of bulb in the old Christmas tree lights used to get. I use them in ceramic figurines where I’m not as concerned about heat/fire. I would be careful using with plastics, especially something as easily melted as a plastic water bottle.

No reason. It should adapt like any extension cord would
