Ahti knives are manufactured in Kauhava, Finland, which has a long and rich history of being known for knife making. The Ahti knives are made by Reino Kamppila and his son, who operate a fourth-generation family business of knife making. Theirs is a smaller shop, but they produce knives of excellent quality and workmanship. The knives and their leather sheathes are works of beauty, and are visually appealing as well as satisfyingly functional. As with most Scandinavian knives, the handles are made from curly birch, sanded and stained. The fittings on the knives are polished brass, and there are plastic inserts in the sheathes to protect both the sheath and the hand, as these knives are quite sharp and could easily slice through both if inserted incorrectly into the sheath. The belt loops aren't attached directly to the sheathes, but rather by a small metal ring, which lets the sheath dangle and swivel to make it easier to move and sit with the knife on your belt. The Metsa ("Forest") is a medium-sized knife suited for a variety of light- and medium-duty tasks, or as an all-around utility knife. This version has a carbon steel blade. The handle is shaped into a hook at the pommel to provide more grip during draw cuts.Below are the detailed measurements of this knife.Blade Material: 0.8% high carbon steel, hardened to 59 RockwellKnife Length: 8 inches (20.3 cm)Blade Length: 3.75 inches (9.5 cm)Blade Width: 0.75 inches (1.9 cm)Blade Thickness: 0.12 inches (3 mm)Knife Weight: 2.9 ounces (82 grams)Handle Length: 4.5 inches (11.4 cm)Pommel: tang end with brass nutHandle Circumference: 3.5 inches (8.9 cm)Handle Material: stained curly birchSheathed Weight: 4.3 ounces (122 grams)Sheathed Length: 9 inches (22.9 cm)Belt Loop Width: 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) Review: Good choice - I like it. It’s a no nonsense working knife with an excellent carbon steel blade. Perfect for fishing, hunting, and general camp use. Watch your fingers, it is razor sharp! Review: great with reservations - wonderful product in all respects except it lost its edge after one use of cutting an Apple. I'll sharpen it and see what happens.

Extremely well done mid-range knife
My use is primarily wood working and carving, but this would make a fine EDC. It goes without saying, this is not a chopper meant for batoning. As far as Finnish puukkos go, you get a lot of value in this mid-range knife. Allegedly Laurin Metalli of Kauhava is OEM for blade, and it shows. The grind is proper mid-height, so you get a lot of bite, as opposed to other designs that have lower third edge grinds. Blade is thicker than a Mora Basic, but since grind is properly done, you do not notice in carving performance. It does come with a fine micro bevel, but this is also well done, and not a detriment to the cutting performance. It should not take major reprofiling to remove, and should come out with sharpening. The sheath is very well made, and has a modern belt dangler, which is appreciated. Most puukko of this quality come with a traditional leather thong attachment, which is not to my taste. Otherwise it cuts very well, and does all the normal Scandi stuff you expect it to do.

GRIND IS BAD!
This knife is more expensive than the Mora Bushcraft Black and Mora Kansbol, but less refined and poorer quality. Fit and finish issues are forgivable, but sloppy blade grind is not. This knife displays poor craftsmanship, and any forge that would ship this should be ashamed. The Good: Nothing. The Bad: The handle is too small for large hands. The handle is stained but not sealed. The spine is not ground flat, cannot be used with a ferro rod. The sheath hardware failed after just one week. The Ugly: Blade grind is terrible. Blade is overground hollow on one side. Blade is ground unevenly on the other side Blade tip is not centered.

Excellent knife
Great scandi grind fixed blade knife. It’s not perfect but really very nice. Extremely sharp. I haven’t done anything too rough with it so don’t know how durable it is, but I expect it will be fine. Pictures are next to a mora robust fixed blade.

High Quality Knife
My husband lost his 20 year old Finland steel knife he used outdoors. He was super bummed. I was relieved I could find similar design here. The knife is a true statement of craftsmanship. This is your "forever" knife.

Adequate, if kind of rough
This knife is a bit of mixed bag. It is an attractive and useful package, in a small, handy knife. The dangler sheath is decent, and once oiled, will be pretty good. I wear large-sized gloves and the handle fits nicely. However, I have to take a few hours to finish the knife to a point that I'll want to use it. I'll have to sand down rough edges in the handle. I prefer the lack of finger guard for wood working but, the transition between the brass bolster and handle is sloppy and needs sanding. The butt of the handle has a very sharp edge that transitions to the "hook at the pommel," I'll have to sand that down to make it comfortable on my hand. The back of the spine is unfinished, slanting to one side with little burrs. I'll have to flatten it to a right angle with a file, which will also allow me to address the nicked tip of the blade. Overall the primary bevels were rough with grind marks clearly visible and the grind was uneven at the tip. I'll have to correct this and slightly re-angle the bevels, straightening them and cleaning up the micro bevel. After all this, a good stropping, re-staining the wood and some linseed oil, this will be a nice forest knife. I kinda wish Ahti had taken a bit more care before sending it out.
