Nothing indicate they are US or USA made, but great bag and quality.

Are the compartments on the ends rigid?

The ends are made of the same fabric as the rest of the bag. It's thick but I wouldn't call it rigid.

I do not know the laws pertaining to handguns in California . that said - this bag is a 'tool' for me- I carry two(2) pistols in their own zippered sleeve . it holds the other items I need to have a successful session at the range. licensed handguns ? permit holder ? - use the sleeves , no round in the chamber, ammo in its original box - that's the way to transport . check with your PD . good luck . ~ JDS/CT AUG 2023

I have a wicked edge knife sharpener mounted to a 12"x10" piece of granite. i know it'll be tight but could this main compartment hold this? thanks

No. There is an interior plastic “bucket” that keeps the whole thing open/upright that will not let something of that size fit.
