Problem solved.
My wife uses Chrome Remote Desktop to connect to her Dell XPS laptop from her desktop PC. Works great as long as the laptop lid is open, but when closed, the remote session screen freezes until the laptop is re-opened. Tried all Power Management settings ("What to do when laptop is closed", no time-out on screen, etc.) without success. I plugged this "dummy monitor" in and configured the Dell to replicate its internal display to it. Now that the Dell thinks it has an external monitor, it keeps the remote session screen "active" even when the lid is closed. Problem solved! I would have preferred the dongle be smaller, like a "nano-sized" USB drive, or Bluetooth or wireless mouse dongle, but otherwise we are very satisfied.

Runs hot but works great
Lots of resolutions to choose from. Has never given me a problem and I have run it for up to three hours at a time. The case does get very, very hot, though.

Works, but hot
Functions as advertised, but gets crazy hot within a few minutes. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving it plugged in unattended.

Case slid off... but now it's smaller! yay?
Glue came loose as I inserted it into my laptop for the first time. The aluminum outer casing slid off. I pushed it out the rest of the way, and now it's... more compact I suppose!Works as I intended, but maybe not how the manufacturer intended. I'm still happy.

Works fine, but damn hot
As everyone says, it works as expected, it gets ridiculously hot if you touch it.

Hardware has become the new software
In an attempt to get VNC to run on an Ubuntu Desktop install, without keyboard/monitor attached, it became much simpler to order this device, then to continue fighting with alternate vnc installs and configurations. And boy, did I try. With this: Setting->Sharing->Screen Sharing On, Settings->User->Automatic Login On , done So, thanks for making this seemingly absurd device, but I get now why it is needed.

Worked great…then broke
I used it 3 times. Removing it after every use. After the 3rd time it was broken. No lights turn on.The device, as others reviewed, gets very hot!
