replacement for "C" shaped dough hook.
this was for an old Kitchen aid mixer that came with a dough hook shaped like a large "C" that has a white coating that has been gradually chipping off for years. I ordered this as soon as it became available. it is superior for mixing and kneading doughs for bread baking. I am happy with its performance and recommend it for use in bread baking.

Excellent quality
Love this dough hook and works amazing well. I have used the c hook but this one kneads the dough better. Great purchase

Spiral dough hook
What a incredible dough hook, works like a dream come true. Brought the dough together quickly and did a great job.

Works much better than original dough hook
I have an older K5SS KitchenAid model that I regularly use (for about 35 years!). This spiral dough hook performs MUCH better than the original equipment C-shaped hook. I just made some sourdough using 1,000 g flour at ~75% hydration, and found that mixing and kneading was very efficient with much less mess of ejected flour than is typical with the C-hook. This spiral hook fits perfectly in my mixer. Perhaps a stainless steel dough hook would be better for durability and ability to clean in a dishwasher, but this model is inexpensive and explicitly lists my KitchenAid model as being compatible. Highly recommended!

It does do as advertised.
This dough hook does do as advertised. For one thing the dough does not climb, well actually it does climb up the hook like it does the C hook that came with the mixer, but when it reaches the top it throws it back to the bowl and doesn't try to climb into the attachment point of the mixer.Secondly it does seem to kneed the dough much faster than the other hook, everything came together in five minutes instead of 12-15.However, I noticed, like several other reviewers had mentioned, there seems to be more strain put on the motor with this hook than with the other attachments. I have a 350 W Special Edition KA and I just felt the motor strained more. Possibly it isn't as bad as the work is being done twice as fast, I am just concerned I would rather take more time and not sacrifice the mixer in the process.Overall, this hook does do as it was advertised, but use caution that it doesn't harm your mixer in the process.

So far so good
I have only used it once to make a double recipe of whole wheat cinnamon bread—a bit more than 5 cups of flour and two cups of raisins . Usually the dough would rise up the dough hook, that didn’t happen but the dough never cleaned the sides of the bowl using a Hobart KitchenAid K5-A stand mixer. I usually bake 1-4 loaves a week. I will see how the spiral dough hook and the stand mixer holds up.Update: I made dough with 2 cups of rye, 2 cups of whole wheat, and 2 cups of bread flour. Once the flour came together my mixer obviously was straining at the load trying to knead the dough. Either it needed much less kneading time or it was too much with the spiral hook. Switching to the regular dough hook the machine did not labor. So one really needs to pay attention to the load when using the spiral hook.

Just be aware..caused my machine to overheat
I was excited to try this dough hook as the dough hook that came with my mixer allows my bread dough to crawl up the hook necessitating stopping the machine and scraping down several times during kneading. This hook does what it says in that it kneads the dough well. HOWEVER, because of the way it kneads it caused my Kitchenaid K5A to overheat…..ruined my 46 year old machine that I’ve never had a problem with..I’m so sad that a $15 part did this. And I only kneaded my dough for 5 minutes before it started doing this. It really bogged the motor down (which has never happened with the same bread recipe and my original dough hook).
