GREAT Towels!
I have always purchased the plush, thick towels but decided to give the Onsen brand a try after reading about them on Wirecutter. Now I'm a total convert. Of course, I washed before using and they fluffed up nicely. I find them to be soft enough, but of course with the waffle-like weave, they are not going to be like a plush towel. I LOVE that they do dry quickly! I have a thing about not having damp towels around. They are a bit pricey but a quality towel is worth it. I purchased a face and hand towel to try them out. Both are generously sized and larger than I thought they would be. Will definitely be replacing my plush towels with more Onsens. The grey color is perfect for my decor. If anything changes, I'll update my review. For now, highly recommend.

"The Last Towel You'll Ever Need"
... That's the tag line in one of the reviews I found for this towel, and they're right.First, if your only criteria for a bath towel are thick, heavy and plush, you probably won't like these. On the other hand if you want a towel that looks terrific, performs as intended and is a pleasure to use, read on.1. Looks terrific: These towels have a relaxed, upscale, minimalist look without being fussy. The colors are slightly muted, organic, nature inspired. Nothing garish here. All the colors would look good together. The soft waffle weave texture contrasts the hard, shiny materials in bathrooms.2. Performs as intended: I believe a bath towel is intended to dry you after a shower or bath. I was surprised by how well these towels do that. I wasn't even what I was looking for that. The waffle weave probably doubles the surface area of the towel.I am puzzled by all the reviews claiming that they're not absorbent, because that is not my experience. One reviewer claims they're not absorbent, and in the next breath talks about the fabric softener she used. As I understand it, dryer sheets and softeners coat the fibers with something that gives the illusion of softness. At the same time, it interferes with the absorbency of the fabric. My neighbor put me onto wool dryer balls (Amazon has them) instead of dryer sheets. They fluff up the clothes, prevent static and don't interfere with absorbency. Wash them in cold water, e-dry them on low and don't use softeners or dryer sheets. See if that makes a difference.3. Pleasure to use: The first time I used them, their lightness and thinness was off-putting. But I got over it quickly because they worked so well. Their lightness actually makes them easier to handle. Schlepping a thick, heavy towel is not required. When I soap up the wash cloth, the soap doesn't get lost deep in terry cloth nap. And I really knew I was getting scrubbed. That was another unexpected pleasure. They wash up nice as described above, and I'm getting very little dryer lint out of them. Because of the stretchiness of waffle weave, folding them was a challenge. I ended up rolling them instead. I fold the bath towel into quarters, and roll it separately. I fold the hand towel lengthwise and roll the folded washcloth inside it. When I stack them on top of the bath towel, I can fit four complete sets on one 22 inch shelf. That's half the space needed for terry cloth towels.I have no intentions to go back to terry cloth.

Surprise! It is absorbent
This is a surprise! Bought only because the NYT Wirecutter recommended it, and I kept failing to find a good, reasonably priced Egyptian Cotton not-so-plush towel, I never expected to actually be happy with a waffle weave. But I tried it, and thought "that's not exactly terrible," and so sorta kept trying it, and the thing kept drying me. I now admit it's soft, absorbent, drys quickly, and I'm no longer shopping for an alternative bath towel.

Great product
I was looking for a towel that matches my rug, they didn’t have the same color but it looks good. The quality is good, light weight, size was a little big but I haven’t washed it yet.

Wasn't sure at first, but now I love it!!
I first bought a full towel set from Onsen's Kickstarter launch earlier this year which included this bath towel, a hand towel, face towel, and an enormous bath sheet towel. First impression out of the package was pretty underwhelming, I liked the cinder color and the towels are very generously sized, but they are very thin compared to what I've been using, and the material didn't seem very soft.Washed the bath towel and started using it- I am totally sold on these now, and bought another bath towel when I found out they were available again so I don't have to use any other towel ever. They are very thin yes, but once you use these for a little while they are amazing. I don't use thicker towels anymore, and I am totally fine with that. Honestly I'm debating bringing my Onsen towel with me on my next trip so I don't have to use the hotel towels. We'll see if I have space in the suitcase.I literally did not know a towel could leave your skin totally dry as I've never had that experience except with paper towels for my hands, but for me this towel absolutely dries me off. The towel also dries off very fast as advertised, though I only shower once a day so that's not as important for me. I do need to use the hand towel for my medium-long hair, as the bath towel on its own isn't sufficient to dry my hair enough. The bath towel is a good size for me and goes past my knees, I hate shorter towels- I am 5'2". As I said above, I also have their bath sheet which is too large for someone my size, but if you're taller than me like most of the population, either size would probably work for you!TL;DR Despite a 'meh' first impression, this is the best towel I've ever used and it is totally worth trying out.

I wish I could give 10 stars!!!!
I am very picky about towels. These are super absorbent thin towels with a waffle-like texture. Oversized and very little lint in the dryer vent screen. We got our first sets for one home and loved them. We wanted then, to buy them for our winter home but they were not in stock. We kept going back to check and they were available again!
